Where does Australia fit in that? We are a continent and I haven’t heard it referred to as anything else.
I here the term Australasia, there is a big difference between us and them but some city’s have a little China or China town .

We are just floating out here all by ourselves . We have an alliance with New Zealand and they fought in New Guinea but they are the only ones I would count. Fiji and Vanuatu are friendly neighbours.

Australia is not a continent. It is part of the continent Oceania that includes New Guinea and a couple of other odds and sods.

I once joined a bunch of good buddies on their spearfishing trip. Did some fishing, waterfowl shooting and boar stalking when they drove out for to their spots. One evening

True. And Australia meets the traditional construction of a single land mass. However, there is that pesky problem of all those Kiwis and other "regional" island nations that clearly are not part of the Asian land mass. Today, most writers simply avoid the issue. When talking about the country or Island of Australia, they use the term "Australia." When talking about the region as separate from the continent of Asia, the term is "Oceania." As a result, the term Oceania gradually has become the norm for "continental" sorts of research, discussions, lists, etc.

Along with Australia, Oceania would include:

• New Zealand
• Papua New Guinea
• Fiji
• Kiribati
• Marshal Islands
• Micronesia
• Nauru
• Palau
• Samoa
• Solomon Islands
• Tonga
• Tuvalu
• Vanuatu

I would not be in the least surprised if Australia is the last place such a naming convention is fully accepted.

From the OP's perspective of hunting a continent down under, I am pretty sure most of us would agree that a red stag from New Zealand or water buffalo from Australia would check the box.

My boss and his wife went to Belize a year or so ago and loved it. Extremely affordable and english is spoken almost everywhere. They did scuba but not with the speargun. I am a bit jealous! Seems like there ought to be some world class dove and duck shooting down there, maybe even some exotic big game. Sounds like you have a good plan, hope it works out for you!

Interesting, that clears it up some. In school in my day we learned the basics and Australia being a continent stuck.
The island countries Rdleg mentioned are certainly within the region but some are a distance. We mostly know the "Islanders* who inhabit them are friendly toward tourism and visitors. There are some towns with communities of Islanders around.

Use your speargun to take a non fish species. Then it can't be termed "fishing'... I'd start off with something like a small seal species, don't go straight for the big ocean dwellers. A killer whale will require a very large spear gun!

The only continent that you'll have trouble hunting on is the antarctic.

Back to topic - how about nominating the target animal for each continent? Say the typical or signature one, tough choice I know, but to just pitch up and klap a mouse is not challenging.

Good idea
Regarding spearfishing, remember that it is not scuba diving with a speargun, but only with its lung capacity.
If your target fish are 1 to 5 kg fish evolving up to 10 meters, it will not be a problem if you are just starting out. On the other hand, if you aim bigger and therefore deeper, it would not be the same story. You need freediving and deep shooting training.
Caution in apnea is essential.

Good evening, gents!

Just a thought up for discussion. I have this goal of hunting 6 continents. I'm halfway there already since I began in 2014. Money isn't unlimited for me so I get to pace myself.
I'm April I'm planning on a wedding and dive honeymoon in Belize with my aquaholic bride. We both love boats and diving and swimming .

Points for discussion here:
Would Central America be considered a separate continent, technically, or is it just far southern North America?
If you ask consider it another continent then would fishing, more specifically spear fishing, count as a hunt?

I just want to make sure I check off those dream boxes properly!

We have a member in Alaska @Velo Dog who may agree with including spear fishing as hunting. You might contact him for an opinion. Not to mention he is a hoot to discuss most any outdoor subject with.

@Red Leg already gave home a suggestion here. A Water Buffalo in Australia or a Red Stag in New Zealand.

I do want a Buff some day, we have Red Deer in Australia and some like the challenge of Sambar if it’s big stuff you like. A few deer species available in some areas

Shooting pigs in Australia can still be called hunting, get the bride down under for her dive and get in on a hunt somewhere and you still got to hunt Australia.

I done a management hunt in South Africa , but I have hunted in Africa.

Way back in the early eighties, we were stationed at the US Embassy in Riyadh Saudi Arabia where I was an Attache'. One of our favorite things was to drive to the Red Sea coast and camp on the beach for a long weekend. Saudi Arabia had no true tourists, and this was before the Middle East went totally insane, so we would have twenty miles of coastline to ourselves. The water was crystal clear and virtually untouched by other people. The water clarity made snorkeling the closest thing that I have ever experienced to flying without a plane. A real special memory is having a manta ray the size of a barn door sail over me while I was pursuing a grouper.

This was old school spear fishing. We used true spears with trident barbed heads. They would handle a grouper up to about 10 lbs without being able to break free. Because we were on diplomatic status, we also had a quarterly "tea" shipment of adult beverages. One of the unique and best things in my memory vault is sitting at night on the shore of the Red Sea with a hamour (grouper) grilling, not a bit of ambient light to disturb the sky, and my bride next to me as we sipped an ice cold Sauvignon Blanc ........... in Saudi Arabia. I truly hope some old Wahabi was rolling in his grave.

I see there have been a few gorings an even deaths from the water buffalo you have in Australia, so it looks to be a serious challenge. What of the buffalo one gets in Argentina, is he aggressive and worthy?
