HWL, I nearly completed my indoor wood fire oven to make and test recipes we can use on our coming 1885 era Black Powder hunts...I just want to prepare the best dishes for my good German friends...

When completed with this project I will spend the next month every day at the gunsmith shop

I shot this cow with a 9.3x62 MS.

This is an amazing picture,... the hunter, the rifle and the animal,..... Waidmanns Heil!

Where do you got this beautiful rifle from,.... 9,3x62 Schoenauers are hard to get and full stock versions even harder.

After a long search, I got my 9,3x62 MS, not a full stock, but a regular rifle.

I am happy with, at least this.

Don't you have to teach the children,... or is the school closed?

Or do you teach them to become a gunsmith?

:)

No, no I am on a well deserve break from work..now is a great time to do all the work in and around the house ...I need to get my house in tip top shape if the promised visit from a German friend and his wife comes to South Africa again to join me in a Black powder hunt...now I avail my time with building projects in and around the house ..next week will find me working on my rifle building project again...HWL, will you see if there is a possibility of getting brass for the 6.5 x 55 Swedish Mauser ??? It will be much appreciated..(y)(y)(y)(y)
Oh, I forgot, I will be busy completing my "walk in rifle safe " shortly..then we can re-load to our heart`s content...I really want to build it into a great re-loading /exhibit rifle /gun room...

Gert, thank you for the link. I don't know how I missed it the first time around. That .404 Jeffery is a fine looking rifle too. I love Mannlicher-Schoenauers and Mausers. I guess that comes from having as my very first rifle to roam the woods a M98. Once it is in your system it can't be done away with.;):D

The set trigger was removed by a previous owner. The spring and pins are there so if I could obtain the set trigger it could be easily installed. I was unaware of the MS collectors site- possibly that would have a lead to a replacement set trigger.

Ray, I am about to start building a deer rifle using a Breda built MS 1903 action in 6.5 x 54. The person I bought the action from had had a similar idea but wanted a set trigger rather than the single that the action was originally fitted with. Now, I am seeking a single trigger.

My original thought was to try and see if a replacement Mauser trigger (Timney or some such) would fit or could be modified to fit. I have been advised that it would probably be better if I replaced it with an original trigger. This is a discussion to be had with the gunsmith when I get to see him after this Covid lock-down. Should the double trigger not be required you are more than welcome to it but I won't know for about a month or so.

Yes, yes, I agree though it is only a .458 caliber , the open sights might just be functional enough to ambush a buffalo or two..in the book The Hunting Imperative written by one of the greatest hunters of our times, Richard Harland he told the story of a man who killed buffalo with a traditional spear by tracking old lone Dagga boys buffalo bulls where they sleep , stalk up to them and thrust the spear into the buffalo`s heart killing the buffalo..this man was the provider of meat for his family and his community..I think this rifle might be just what the doctor ordered to ambush a Dagga boy laying down to sleep..(y)(y)(y)

HWL, thank you kindly, it is much appreciated...I really want us to participate in a Mannlicher Schoenauer open sights rifle hunt when you visit South Africa again..there are more members/friends with Mannlicher Schoenauers who would really be interested in such a hunt with these old and great rifles..will keep you up to date..no please if possible bring the 6.5 x 55 Swedish Mauser brass with you ..the South African postal services can not be trusted to deliver on time as we experienced your last visit where they were a month late, you post the parcel a month before visiting SA and we collected the parcel two days after your arrival...this only happens in Africa :eek:
