What guns will you never sell? And what guns do you regret sellling?

At my age (nearly 71) I'm not planning to sell any of my rifles or shotguns, but I am having a hard time trying to decide who to give them to when I'm gone. Next generation of my family aren't hunters and would not appreciate any of my fine guns. I'm thinking that I will leave them to my hunting buddies.

Most of my rifles have been given to me by gentlemen such as yourself. Life long hunters whose children have no desire to hunt. I wouldn’t dream of selling them. I’m too attached now.

I am lucky. I should have added that a few of these children were anti-hunting, gun control nuts. No way a hunter wants their rifles or shotguns to wind up in the hands of someone that may simply destroy them.

My keepers: Win70 Safari Express 375HH, my Mossberg 22Lr that my Dad gave me when I was 7 0r 8 years old and my match grade Garand. The one I most regret letting was my semi sporterized 1917 Enfield 06. Ugly damned thing but it sure would shoot.

Here are 2 rifles that I cant see myself selling...

This is my Weatherby Vanguard in .300 Weatherby Magnum.
It is fitted with a Bushnell Trophy XLT 6-18x50 scope and is exceptionally accurate.
The rifle has been bedded and the barrel free-floated and has been absolutely faultless in regard to its reliability.
Shoots flat, hits hard and it is very versatile big game rifle.

This is my Zastava M70 in .458 Winchester Magnum.
This rifle is fitted with a Leupold 1.5-4x20 scope.
The stock has the full aluminium bedding chassis and unloaded with scope weighs in at 10lbs
This rifle build - including scope and mounts etc... cost the grand sum of $1500.
Thats buying everything brand new (except the stock - that had fired 10 rounds on a previous rifle).
Unlike previous CZ's I've owned, the rifle feeds flawlessly, ejects flawlessly and the mag works perfectly straight from the box.
Now, this rifle DOES NOT shoot very flat and ISN"T very versatile, but with my hand-loads what it does have is 5000ft/lbs of muzzle energy and if hunting something big and nasty, there's nothing I would want more in my hands than this rifle...

Another reason I cant see myself selling these 2 rifles is that they compliment each other beautifully.
One is a long range, flat shooting rifle that is ideal for touching animals a long way away, while the other is a short-range stopper for when things go bad.

In my opinion there's not to much in the world of big-game hunting that this duo couldn't handle...

The one rifle that I dearly regret selling was this Winchester M70 .458
There was a bit of a story behind it as it originally had a few problems but the previous owner (who's a member on here...) got it all sorted and it ended up being a FANTASTIC rifle.
Everyday I regret selling it and I'd own another in a heartbeat...

My pre 64 model 70 30/06 and Mauser 7mm aren’t going anywhere. Also any gun which belonged to a family member.
I sold a BRNO 602 375 last week and I didn’t want to, so I will regret that someday I’m sure.

And the one I regret selling was a bolt action Weatherby Mark XXII 17HMR. These were Weatherby stocked and branded but built on Anschutz actions. Wonderfully accurate, lightweight rifle with a great Leica scope. I loved hunting small game with it. I was moving between the continents and had to let some stuff go. Should have kept it. It was such a joy to shoot. Sometimes when out hunting I would have my centerfire in my hand or on a sling and this one in my backpack in case I happened upon rabbits or cats. My back then girlfriend now wife enjoyed shooting it too (she doesn't hunt but enjoys shooting).

"Never" is a long time.......esp. in this day and age of the pandemic. However, there are a few that would be "last on the list".
1.) Mossberg 500 pump shotgun......first gun I ever got (purchased it with my own money at 14 years of age)

2.) F.I.E single shot 20 gauge shotgun.......my granddad's gun; my grandmother gave it to me when he passed away. I shot my first rabbit with that shotgun.

3.) Interarms Mk X Viscount .30-06 bolt action rifle......gift from my mom on my 16th birthday; got it 6 months after my father passed away.

4.) CVA St. Louis Hawken percussion rifle in .54 caliber. Gift from my wife when I graduated from perfusion school. Shot a few game animals with that gun, including a bison.

5.) Colt Trooper Mk III in .357 magnum......first handgun I ever bought; gift to myself on my 21 st birthday.

Only gun I've ever sold was a Ruger LCR .38. It was actually my wife's, so wasn't my call to sell.

I will never sell my 7 millimeter Remington Magnum . It is a custom job ; built on a Springfield Model 1903 receiver with a straight stock of Turkish walnut and a Douglas barrel by Jim Zahm of Oregon , USA . It is an extremely reliable , extremely accurate , robust rifle and has helped me account for countless Sambhar and Chital Deer and wild boars, six Asian Sloth Bears and two man eating leopards over the last 44 years of my life .

I will also never seen my William Wellington Greener 12 Bore hammerless double barrel side by side wildfowl gun . It has 2 3/4 inch chambers, automatic ejectors and 28 inch barrels ( left= full choke , right= improved modified choke ) . I purchased it in 1975 and it has never let me down for my wing shooting purposes . Loaded with English AAA cartridges ( formerly Eley Alphamax , but now Lyavale Express) it is indispensable for shooting greylag geese and for shooting Kakar Deer during beats .

I never sold it ( because it technically never belonged to me ) , but I really do regret not holding onto a beautiful .375 Holland & Holland Magnum , which I had used for putting down 16 man eating Hunting Leopards between 1973 and 1975 . It was a beautiful sidelock Double Rifle , built by John Rigby & Co . It was a side by side , equipped with 24 inch barrels, automatic ejectors , manual safety, double triggers , wide V shaped back sight and ivory bead fore sight . An elegant piece of English craftsmanship. I should have purchased it from the owner .

Have sold a few and bought a number that will never go outside the family.
The 3 that I REALLY REGRET selling or trading were a Woodward 500 BPE double rifle, 577 BPE double rifle I shot my giraffe with, and a custom Ruger #1 in 50 Alaskan, alas I don't have pictures of the #1 or the woodward. and will have to locate one for the 577.
