Good afternoon everyone.

Sooner or later I'll be able to go to Africa on a hunting trip. Where and what for, I have plenty of time to figure out, but a thought struck me today. Has anyone visited Egypt before or after going on their hunt? I've always wanted to go there and it's one of the places my dad has always regretted not taking me to see. He went there with my mom in the 1980s, for work with the US Corps of Engineers on devising plans for solar power installations I believe, and they made a little vacation out of it. I, of course, wasn't in the picture yet, and despite having been as far east as Turkey, we never got to Egypt (or to Jerusalem, where he's always wanted to go). I figured that since I'd be going on a Great Adventure to the African continent in the first place, why not take advantage of that and go to the one country in Africa I've wanted to see since I was five. I think ending the journey with Egypt would be the best idea.

Biggest problem I can see is guns. Egypt doesn't like guns. From what I can understand, people traveling into Egypt with guns must leave them in the custody of Customs/the police for the duration of the visit and I'm not too keen on that idea. What could I do about my guns if I wanted to make it a single trip and wanted to avoid leaving them in the hands of the Egyptian authorities even just for a few days?

Unfortunately traveling with firearms in this day and age is often difficult.
As you have already found out.
You are headed to a country that the "import of all firearms, including sporting guns, is prohibited."

I think a firearm rental is in your future.
Or hunt with a friend who takes them home for you while you go on your Egyptian tour.

You could run into a problem here also.

I agree, rent a firearm or do a hunting trip and then a touring trip but not combined.

I actually put some consideration into the latter. But I agree with @JimP ; I can see how my cousin or a friend taking my firearms back with them might be problematic in its own right. Ditto with going to Egypt first and then having someone meet me further southward with my weapon(s) in tow.

Since I personally would prefer not to do a rental, I think that unless something about the political climate(s) change between now and me being able to head to Africa (which would be in at least a few years anyway; while I have the money for it now I'd rather work on letting it invest and get to an even more comfortable amount, plus I just plain need to work on the hunting part since I'm little more than an academic at the moment), Jim's suggestion of doing separate trips is the best option for now.

Enjoyed reading your post again. Believe this is the 3rd time. I am scheduled to hunt w/ Legadema in Sep. Really looking forward to it.
