Life After The Indian Hunting Ban

Not the regulary troops, they had the 5,56 aka .223.
But some SF.
(I had seen it with my own eyes.)
Not sure what you have seen with your "own eyes," but no US forces still use the 30-06. It was replaced in the late seventies in individual and crew-served weapons by the 5.56 and 7.62. US snipers have used the .300 Winchester Magnum (along with the 7.62, .50 cal, etc) in recent decades, but not the '06. It is no more a "military" round than the 7x57 or 8x57.

And I would agree with others, the '06 is significantly more versatile than the 7x57mm.

Import of rifles and guns in India is restricted but not banned
If a shooter can score above the minimum qualified score set for different categories . Starting from Air rifles to Big bore
He can legally import guns and rifles into the country without paying custom duty .
That is the reason Indian shooters do reasonably well international

New Imported fire arms in India can be had , if and only if
A) the civilian has attained the status of a , “renowned shooter “ . .This means that the renowned shooter must achieve the minimum qualifying score at the National Shooting Championship Competition ( NSCC ) . This renowned shooter may only import one fire arm for the particular discipline discipline in which they have achieved renowned shot status. They may also apply for permission of direct import of up to 15000 cartridges for that one fire arm.
Given what the minimum qualifying score for each of these imported fire arms is , it can safely be said that people who own an imported fire arm are the exception and not the rule in India .
B) The civilian has a transfer of residence certificate . What this essentially means is that the citizen lived in a foreign country ( for instance , the United States of America ) and and owned a fire arm there ( for instance , a model 70 rifle from Winchester in magnum .375 bore ) , then by using a transfer of residence certificate , if they return to India , they can bring that single fire arm back to India.

Mr Raghav, it would seem that it would be extremely unlikely a regular citizen can own a firearm, and after mr Rahman's explanation, unlikely anyone other than an elite shooter would have any possible way to own one. your explanation makes it sound like firearms are more available to the general public than they really are.

mr Rahman, thank you for clarifying things.

Thank you so much for your kind words and l am impressed by how well you understood the law so quickly.
PSRaghav is a government appointed Shikari ( in current times ) who deals with problem causing leopards and Royal Bengal tigers and does a very good work , l am certain . I am certain that he meant well and just wanted to say that imported fire arms can be owned by civilians in theory .
However , the way you described it is perfectly in line with my own personal view and assessment of the facts.

Anyone who wishes can own a fire arm in India . One has to apply for a licence and after due verications can get his / her licence made

Neel in hindi means Blue. Gai means cow.
the hindi word for bull is bail / sand
There is no discrimination for issue of arms licences with respect to caste creed or sex .
Your claim that Indira Gandhi snatched your weapons away is false

My friendMr Vinod Rishi Indian Forest Services was former Director of Darjeeling Zoo. A devout vegetarian Hindu he had no issues getting beef into the zoo for the tigers and leopards kept there. I am talking about just a few years ago. Ivan not believe that you could not get beef in the 1970s when it is available today

The most well known registered Shikaris in India today are Nawab Safath Ali Khan ( Muslim ). Joy Hukil (Christian) and Lakhpat Singh Rawat (Hindu) .

You claim that Lakhpat is your friend and you are not even aware that he lives in Gairsain a small town in Uttarakhand and not in the state of Uttar Pradesh is too early in the morning right now . . I shall call up Lakhpat later in the day today and find out if he really knows you .

Mr Raghav
Is a true gentleman and a (former) Shikari and (now) true hunter und sport-shooter.
He had put great input in that forum.
We all like his storys and use his (free) content here.
I think it is not fair, to search for one little detail and then "blame him".
If somebody has an good argument (pro and contra), yes, okay, bring it, but please bring it fair. And with style please.

Mister Red Leg
I know what I have seen.
And:
I dont think that you was there also...

Dear Bullhunter
I have no problem with any story if it is based on facts .
Unfortunately . However interesting Mr Rehman's stories may be . There are many contents which are far from reality. I just want to confirm if Lakhpat Singh Rawat has actually given permission to Mr Rehman to use his photograph for publication.

Red Leg,
this is interesting.

Which fire arms in this caliber are in use, and for which field applications?

Or just kept on stock in warehouses? Or just protocol rifles, like old garands?

It is very clear that PSRaghav wishes to be confrontational instead of peaceful and wishes to use every attempt here to discredit others . Let us assess the discrediting one by one

Screenshot_20191105-113541_01.png

Perhaps l am lying . Will the first page of the internet lie too ? Nilgai means blue bull and the word has remained unchanged for quite some time.

Secondly , not a single person is talking about just fire arms . We are talking about new imported fire arms ( please look at what imported means ) .
Thirdly , no one is talking about Indira Gandhi herself taking away any fire arms. Let me rephrase it so that it does not offend PSRaghav ( although , a person seeking to discredit you will take offense to everything anyway ). In 1972 , many local Shikaris and hunters had their fire arms confiscated by the government . That is a hard fact . Not all , admittedly , but many . If you do not wish to admit this , fine . I surrender .

Thirdly, l have removed every photograph here that is personally not mine and mine alone. The only reason l got into this problem in the first place is because l listened to another forum member here who owns the copyright of some of my personal photographs to use in his book and asked me to include some third party photographs I articles here ( which l have written for free without any financial gain in mind )

If l am lying about beef , then l suppose international news is lying too , about the situation of beef eaters ?
Also , there is a MASSIVE difference between an officer acquiring beef for feeding a tiger at a zoo and an ordinary person buying beef for eating.
If anyone here ( unbiased ) has actually been to India , l will ask them to count on one hand the list of restaurants and places where beef is available . Alright , there is not a blanket ban on beef on paper , but the facts are still very disconcerting none the less .
And l made a typing error in my post . I meant to write Uttarakhand but the automatic correction system in the touch phone made it into Uttar Pradesh , because l use that word frequently.

I can keep continuing . But when a news paper internet site , called " The Hindu " records what happens to beef eaters there , l think that my other respected forum members themselves can see for themselves who is telling the truth and who is being unreasonable and confrontational , merely because someone disagrees with his views .
If any person here is interested in neutral research , please do a search on the internet using three words : Indians lynch butcher. People can see for themselves who is telling the truth .

Anyone who has a computer or a touch phone can also see what the Wild Life Protection Act - 1972 actually says.
Also , PSRaghav , you claim that you participated in pig-sticking in the 1980s decade. By law then , am l to understand that you were partaking in illegal activity ? Or were you killing domestic pigs and calling it hunting ?

And One final thing
There are over a billion people in this earth and no two people will have the same views on ethics , politics and the like . However , it takes a person of unmatched arrogance and immaturity to come to an internet forum ( about hunting , no less ) to discredit a person for talking about things the way he personally perceived them to be .
If anyone has been following my posts here for a long time , instead of just reading a few lines and jumping in , to attack me , then they will know how l always remain respectful to people of every religion and faith and background here and in real life . My niece's boyfriend is a Protestant Christian and l love my niece like my own daughter and l have a very healthy friendship with the boy as well . Hindu , Muslim , Christian does not define whether you are a nice person or not . It is how you treat other people . If anything , PSRaghav , it is you who is repeatedly talking about Hindu , Muslim and Christians , not l .
English is not my first language and it has only been two months since l have learnt to type on a touch phone and computer with proficiency . What you are attempting to do is take very small things in my writing , of negligible value and make it look as if l am fraudulent .
You support the Indian ban on hunting , okay . You support Indira Gandhi's government ( who died in 1984 ) , okay .
You have a devout vegetarian friend , okay . You can have philosophies which are different from us all . No problem . I will rather fight for your right to live your life the way you see fit.
But calling a man fraudulent for voicing a view not in line with your own is something akin to children in school arguing if Bat Man is better than Super Man .
One small thing . These articles are my hunting experiences more than six decades ago and so the focus is not on my political views ( which l do not write about , on social media forum platform , any way ) . No one here is interested in political views and so l only briefly touch upon politics when it is a crucial part of the article . So yes , there will be some generic statements . If any of my dear respected forum members want me to expound on a particular line or paragraph in any of my articles , then l gladly always do so , being as detailled and courteous as possible.
Is this your idea of entertainment , PSRaghav ? Searching on the internet for people who's views do not match your own and then using small statements in their articles to paint them as fraudulent , by blowing them out of proportion merely to make a political statement , In a article about hunting ?

Dear mister Kawshik Rahman,
Sir,
thank you for the statements.

These are hard fact.

I double-check:
- Nilgai
- Hunting ban
- Weapon ban
in the Internet.

Result:
You are correct.
100%

Your statement about the school-fight (Who is better? Superman or batman?) is also 100% correct.
Your great adventures in old India are decades ago. India was and still is big country...
There are allways place for differtent options, as long we handel it fair.
I hope you will go on here, with your great content for all of us.

Your

F.

Oh boy . I have some public explaining to do . Firstly , Mr. Rahman has enough of his personal pictures posted on these forums for us to know he's the real deal . Secondly , it's my stupid fault that l made Mr . Rahman sign the contract with me for my book so that l can use some of his pictures in my book , which were his personal belongings . I'm the guy who repeatedly told him to use A FEW pictures of some third parties in places in the articles for reference . He didn't want to do it and was vocally against it from Day 1 . It's my fault and l fixed it by having the moderators remove the pics long ago .
Secondly , l haven't hunted many DG in my life , except Aussie Water Buff , but l can tell you even now . Mr. Rahman's description of Indian animals , their behavior and the terminal effects of ammo on them is eerily accurate for a " liar " . Anyone who has hunted DG will not even need pictures to read Mr. Rahman's writing and know that his experiences in the field , mirror the one of any professional who hunts . Some of the details he describes are not even available on most books and only someone who actually hunted them would know these things with such accurate precision .
Also , l had been to Calcutta this year . Except one shop deep deep inside New Market , l did not see beef being sold anywhere , not even in Tollygonj Club where l stayed ( l hope l spelt it right ? ) .
I did a double check on the links Mr. Rahman provided. He's right . When a leftist paper like Washington Post documents a phenomenon , well... The issue certainly isn't imaginary ;)
Trying to call a guy a fraud , just because you didn't experience the things he did ...
Well that's a bit like saying the moon doesn't exist coz you never walked on it :p

I don’t know where “there” was, but I served in the US Army for three decades as a combat arms officer and retired as a General Officer. I have been around combat units my whole career. I was an airborne ranger and a product of the JFK Special Warfare Center. What sort of weapon did you see a Special Forces soldier carrying chambered in 30-06? Our SOF units are indeed often armed with unique weapons not issued to regular forces - the .45 cal in handgun configuration is an example. We have also experimented with mid-range calibers in the AR platform. I suppose a SOCOM unit could acquire an ‘06 for a special purpose, but it would not be an Army issued weapon.

We have always armed some indigenous groups with our surplus weapons, but haven’t handed out an M1 since the eighties. No US soldier - Infantry, SF, Delta, Ranger, or Airborne - has been issued a 30-06 for decades. We have no stocks of military 30-06 ammunition.

We have also experimented with a number of calibers in sniper rifles since Vietnam, but the ‘06 has not been one of them for many years.
