7x57 Mauser. Essentially NIB, perfect condition. I don't believe its ever had a round run thru the action nor the barreled action ever taken out of the stock. All papers, hang tag, box etc.

This is an XTR and they seem to actually have put a little extra into them. I have another in .300 H&H and its superb. This one takes 5 down and I just ran 5 thru the mag, no issues, tight headspace. This is not a common rifle to begin with (in 7x57) but this one even less so as it has factory barrel sights and these seem to be quite rare. There is not another for sale on line that I am aware of. Made a pitch for this one on GB, seller was receptive and its mine.

Twist as listed in the papers is 8 and 1/4 which is to my mind about perfect for all weights. I will try to post some pics tomorrow. This should be a nice shooter.

Congratulations on a great score!

Ses, you bought your 300HH XTR at the same time I did. (If I ever find another, I will buy it also) And you are right, XTRs are something special in my experience for the prices we paid.

Same seller has another of the exact same rifle in a different caliber that has me questioning my sanity!:eek::rolleyes:o_O:whistle:

Here is a couple of pix, wood is straight grained, no figure but oh well. Transition gun, with Winchester recoil pad, not US Repeating Arms. Getting ready to mount a nice Meopta 3-9X scope on it.

LOL. I need to get a grip!!:LOL::LOL:

Very interesting gun. I have a M-70 featherweight in 7x57 that I ordered through the mail in Canada back in about 1983. It looks remarkably similar to this gun but has no sights. Is this gun a similar vintage?

Most likely, SN has mine made in 1982. Most of those made had no sights. I like sights so always look for models that have them.

Picked up an unfired 1981 .257 Roberts a couple of years ago, had a minor defect in the muzzle and the stock needed to be relieved at the magazine. Went from 3' groups to 1.25" 5 shot group, beautiful little guns

I’ll bet mine is 1982 vintage then. Back then Winchester was doing a limited run in one classic caliber each year. The 7x57 was one of these runs. They don’t show up very often. I have never seen one with iron sights.

I don't recall that Win was doing any regular annual run of limited calibers. Believe you are thinking of the Remington Classic line., which was during that same time frame.

Pretty sure that Winchester ran a classic caliber in the M-70 featherweight annually. I believe that this predated Remington's runs by 10+ years. If I remember correctly the 7x57 was only offered as part of the one year limited run. This wouldn't explain your rifle as these limited featherweight runs did not have sights that I know of.

Remingtons yearly Classic line started in 1981 with the 7x57, then the .257 R and on it went for years. Pretty sure that Win didn't have a similar run of rifles or at least nowhere near as extensive as Remingtons. The Featherweight was offered in numerous calibers, some with sights, some without, I just don't think it was a purposeful annual ltd run like Remington did.

May be my misunderstanding, but I watched the Winchester production runs in great detail in the late 70's early 80's as I worked toward my first deer rifle. They definitely had a classic caliber go through the lineup on an annual basis. I don't know if it was ever advertised in the manner Remington did, but it did happen.

They may well have had a classic caliber available during regular production runs along with other calibers, quite likely. Difference between that and the Remington Classic line is that during those years, they only had the one caliber in THAT line, while making other calibers available in their other lines. The Featherweight line has gone on to several other runs as well.

Whichever is more correct, they are neat rifles.
