Delta offering premium economy seats called Premium Select

Ha, I'm too low on the 'important people pole' to be allowed access into that lounge. :D:LOL:

Phillip, I live 45 minutes from the San Antonio Airport, yet it's much cheaper to drive to Houston and fly out there. Even my daughter, who lives in the Dallas area, is driving from Dallas to fly out of Houston next week on her trip to Johannesburg. We're both flying Delta, from Houston to Atlanta, Atlanta to Jo'burg. It's a three and half hour drive for me as well for her. We pay to park at a nearby hotel for $5.70 a day. then use hotels free shuttle to airport. Not sure why it is, but for me to fly out of San Antonio adds about $700 to the ticket? Even for her flying out of DFW. It was the same last year when we flew Qatar Air, cheaper to drive to Houston than fly out of San Antonio.

@Philip Glass, if you are going to Delta instead of American, drive to Austin instead of San Antonio. Generally cheaper flights and Delta just opened a new lounge. I have not been in it yet, but from the photos it looks spectacular.

I agree with @Dee S, IAH is generally the cheapest to fly out of with a few exceptions. I have driven to IAH several times and only DFW twice

i can’t drive to Houston it’s 8 hours for me. I read that if you buy Delta PE you get domestic business class complimentary. Need to check up on that.
Yes I can easily drive to San Antonio, Austin, or Midland instead of flying AA out of San Angelo. I go to Midland to fly to IAH for some trips.

That makes sense, 8 hours from out west. That's a haul....

The prices on the upgrades for my flight keep fluctuating, so I'll wait and see, maybe at the last minute they'll drop them down to my price range. If not, I've got good seating in Comfort Plus.

My wife and I had comfort Plus two years ago and I couldn't tell there was any thing different from the basic economy! They claimed upgrades that didn't happen.

Oh man....:( are you serious? Seats weren't bigger, more leg room, recline, etc.? Supposed to have dedicated overhead bins, better snacks, drinks, etc. I'm not a drinker, no worries there, but better snacks would be nice, the extended leg room, and recline isn't much, but I figured it would help?

The snacks and drinks were no different than everyone else's and the seats were the same! Maybe there was some kind of screw up but definitely not worth the extra. It seemed like a scam, a way to charge you a extra!

Eco + is just extra legroom. Eco Select is larger seats, even more leg room, and better food and drink. Delta one is lay flat seats and better food.

When we had Comfort Plus it stated that snacks were upgraded.

Guess I'll find out soon enough? 36 more days

one thing though, I reserved mine far enough in advance that I'm on the front row, no seat in front of me. Me being 6' tall, that will help as well.

I have flown Delta economy comfort on 5 occasions from ATL to Joberg. Only difference is legroom and addl recline, which is not much. Used to be about $300 premium round trip, now about $600. Drinks, food and snacks(peanuts or cheese crackers) are the same in economy comfort or coach. Personally just another way to charge more for very little extra. Am using Qatar next year to Nambia...1k more than Econ comfort and 400 more than the new Econ comfort plus on Delta....Qatar Business class, lay flat same as First class. At those charges for business it is a no brainer for me after spending 16 hours on a Delta flight in a cattle car enviroment

I flew over to Jo'burg on Delta, Flights 200 and 201, which seems to be a lot of hunters favorite flights. Most direct, fairly hassle free, and usually very affordable. I opted to upgrade to Comfort Plus and booked early enough to get on the front row, row 29. I'd fly that route again in a heartbeat, especially if I could get seat 29F on both legs. I think the Premium Seats would still be out of my price range, not that it's real expensive compared to First Class, but that's money I could put towards an animal or two.
Before making the decision to upgrade, I researched the web for information, pictures, and videos on the Comfort Plus seating and didn't really find anything that answered my questions, so I thought I'd make one of my own experiences. I focused on the leg room, along with where to sit if your a wide guy like me. I hate having to crawl past people to get to the isle for a bathroom break, or trying to use my right arm to eat with a person, usually a big guy, sitting to my right. Was Comfort Plus as comfortable as the Premium Seats will be, I'd hope not, but it wasn't bad and for the price I think it's a real bargain.

DeeS, Yes, that's pretty much my experience also. I'm in about the same boat- no VIP and can't justify the extortion of the good business/1st class nor lounges. I always try to book max time out to ensure being able to pick the correct seats. And, I'm tall and have never been able to sleep much on long flights. Those forward bulkhead upgrade econ seats seem the best overall for me. I also think there are upgrade econ seats at emergency exits, near the lavatories at the galley cross over aisle... those seats also really have a lot of leg room. But sometimes the noise and activity in that area, not to mention the fumes emanating from those waiting in line to use the lavatory, from about 10 hrs into the flight on, might tend to question the wisdom of selecting those seats :)

Just returned from SA, having flown Delta Comfort on the last six years, I booked Qatar out of Chicago, thru Doha...9 hour layover, business lounge rest area, and then 8 hours to JNB. Longer than the Delta direct, but economy was $848.00 round trip,, newer 777, and new Airbus 350. Much better than the cattle car Delta at half the price....bonus...all attendants a very young..20’s...and very attentive, hardworking, with always a smile. Am flying in June to Windhoek on QAtar, business class $3800. Their new Q Suite is unbelievable...no comparison to Deltas Lay Flat. If you want to sacrifice some time in travel and save $$$ compared to a Delta....Go Qatar. Any info that you want or info for traveling with a firearm, pm me...firearm travel with Qatar is very easy, you are handled in a special and simple manner.

We flew Qatar last year, in Economy. We flew it mainly to endure only one layover versus two. There were no empty seats on the plane and it was full of kids of all ages. I'd fly Qatar again, it wasn't that bad, but for the price I paid to fly Delta Comfort Plus on the front row, there's no comparison for me. Until I hit the winning lotto, flying affordable is how I have to travel.

Unless you're one of their preferred travelers, Delta will bump you out of that row 29 behind the bulkhead seat faster than you can say WTF and you won't know it until you check in. BTDT and will never fly Delta anywhere again. I fly out of PHL and Qatar has a direct Doha, five hour layover and then direct Joburg and I get there in time to get the in country flight. Eliminated is the PHL to ATL and 200 or 201 surprise seating flight and no overnight.

That Bulkhead Comfort + has been my seat for the last 4 flights with Delta, and you WILL be bumped out of it at a moments notice for a preferred customers request... I know from experience. Had to go all the way to the President, and talked to his Admin assistant to get those seats back..never would have had my son not been with a Fortune 50 Company and held A Delta card with priveleges and frequent flyer miles...Has happened every time I flew Bulkhead comfort. Notice now those seats are blocked out when you make reservations and seat request. Hell, we were bumped from Comfort + completely the first time we flew in 2014...No more Delta for me....My wife and I had empty seats on three of the four legs last week on Qatar, between us on the three row seating in the rear of the 777. Kids are not a concern on either flight when they are seated and quiet, and they all were very well behaved, some of the adults were a pain...feet in the aisle, constantly chit chatting in the aisle, and oh yes they cant read the seat belt signs. Still beats the devil out of Delta for 1/2 the fare, with a firearm you are treated with lots of attention. When I landed they hand carried my rifle for me and gave preferential treatment to make sure it was loaded on the plane and removed to a secure area and was met by a Qatar representative to clear me thru Agriculture in Chicago. So your rifle is is not transferred to the plane until you clear boarding and they confirm the rifle is on the plane.

I did not know, or have not heard, the horror stories y'all described. That sucks! And I guess there's no way to know until it happens? Good to know, thanks.

Same here wont fly delta ever again going with qatar

My daughter and her boyfriend flew comfort plus on 200 & 201 in August. No problems. She’s returning again in January, so we’ll see if she has problems on that trip. She upgraded for $200 total, round trip. Not bad
