SOUTH AFRICA: Buffalo Rodeo In The Kalahari

Good report Toby! Congrats on buff. Two

Toby, this might be the wrong thread, but don't you owe us the details surrounding your lioness with a bad attitude?

Thanks for reminding everyone just how special a cape buffalo hunt can be. These aren't whitetail and your butt isn't parked in a blind. Great bull. better story, and no one was hurt. Congratulations!!!

Well, I missed all the excitement because I decided to stay in the bakkie out of everyone’s way. But when I arrived at the final scene, everyone was still a bit tense and Toby was quite irritated about the jam. He was already working on a solution to prevent it from happening again. Here we go, Toby’s buying another rifle!:ROFLMAO::LOL::D

Very good report. Congratulations on a fine buffalo.

toby,

thanks for the report. something to be learned on every hunt, even the ones that don't go as we want. glad you got your very nice buff. thats why the PH's are there, to fix the things that go wrong. congrats.

Hopefully you all can learn something from my mistake.
What could we learn? Don’t go with you buffalo hunting unless we’re prepared to pull the trigger? Just teasing Toby! You were an easy guy to get along with. I’d go with you any day DG hunting!

I guess we both had "dual hunts" on a couple of animals didn't we?! The lesson to be learned is, you may have to burn gun powder and boot leather, if you hunt with me! :P Cowboy:

Interesting story and glad everything turned out OK. I can relate to the mighty .416 as just a few weeks ago I scored two buffalo within 30 seconds! I shoot a CZ 550 in .416 Rigby...absolutely devastating.

Here's what a single lung shot Buffalo looks like from the inside. Imagine running over 6 miles with a lung shot to pieces!

I’ll written that about empty cases being extracted from a Sako with a low mounted scope. No issues with smaller cases though just 375 plus.

Good story; glad you got him in the end and everyone came out ok.

With this experience still fresh on my mind, I can't help but think I have a score to settle with another buffalo in the near distant future! Damn You Africa! Haha!

With Sako and Ruger it happens when you operate the bolt at speed not when slowed down....

Not DG but on the contrary i borrowed my brothers sako 85 black bear in 9.3x62 for 12 months inbetween rifles for myself and i had awful trouble with it jamming up when i worked the bolt too slowly. Mind you it would jam putting a round in not pulling one out. Cost me a shot on the biggest sambar stag I've ever seen, still think about that one.

They are great guns but I would put more faith in my current CZ 550 to be reliable than that gun.

I would be interested in it if you pass. Please send me the info on the gun shop if you do not buy it. I have the needed ammo and brass.
