For those interested in more space but can’t or don’t want to spend money for business class flights… Delta is now offering premium economy seats called Premium Select. This is a dedicated cabin between business and economy with increased recline, width, and legroom as well as priority boarding. While we have seen premium economy on many other carriers this will be the first offered on a non-stop from the US to Johannesburg beginning November 2019. Other markets operating currently or soon-to-operate include Argentina, Australia, Europe and Asia. So far we’ve seen prices that are comparable with Comfort Plus, so we expect many clients will take advantage of it! Premium Select seats are limited and our prices are competitive, so contact us for a quote today!

Some of the jets have been converted but the one we came across on last week had not been. Maybe Lori and Jen can let us know when the conversion will be complete.

We were fortunate and got the biz class upgrade. What a back saver!

Thanks Lori and Jen
Going to need three soon, can they be together and will it be offered on 200/201? Jacques
Jacques - yes, the Premium Select seats are on DL 200/201. The configuration is 2 on each side and 4 in the middle.

WAB - it starts on the Delta flight to Johannesburg in November of this year.

Is this a retrofitted 777 or a new Airbus? I am glad to hear it is finally coming available!

Hi Philip - it's retrofitted, here's a diagram of the cabin/seat layout for the Johannesburg flight with Premium Select seats in rows 20-25 and Comfort Plus seats in rows 30-36.

The new “business class” on two class configured planes. My humble prediction is traditional business class will gradually increase in price and the new slightly larger premium seating will as well.

Go get n the Delta website and put in a booking date in the future! When you see seating arrangement in the business class that is 28 seats and not in a herringbone pattern then at that time the Boeing 777 on the route will be converted to have these new Premium Select seats. The seats will recline more than others and have adjustable leg rests. I looked at late May of next year and by then the plane will have been converted.

When i booked my flight to Namibia for this past June, I got a real surprise. Delta was offering 2 business class (Delta One) on the long flights over and one business class back home and it was only $300.00 more. A rare opportunity.
Talk about being spoiled! Linen on your tray table, actual silverware, glass drinkware, superb food (order of menu) and drink, appetizers, salad then entre. Larger screen tv, reclining seat to bed, privacy door.

Probably the one and only time.

As someone who's never flown outside of economy, I hope that us peasants get thrown a bone one day.

In all fairness, the reason my parents don't do over economy is because we use the difference at our destination

I'm taking those Delta flights, to and from Jo'burg at the end of September. I'm currently in Delta Comfort + plus on both legs. I'm hoping they drop the price of the Delta One seats down to something I can afford when I check in. Currently, on the departure date, of the 37 seats in Delta One, only 5 are taken, leaving 32 seats empty and a whole bunch of flight attendants with no customers to tend too. Anybody have any experience with Delta dropping the price on those, say about 24 hours out? I know Qatar did last year and we took advantage of it.

I just went to Delta and checked on a trip in December. The Premium seats were only a $1000 more than Basic economy. ($1500 vs $2500) I'd pay that in a heart beat. On same flight, Delta One is $10K.

Wow they kept the Comfort+. I thought that was not supposed to happen. So glad there are more options now on this flight. Those planes needed to be upgraded the entertainment systems were worn out and so aggravating to operate. I don’t have plans for Southern Africa for next year but who knows

With that in mind, I just bought a used iPad, gen 5, off of eBay, for $200. It has 128gb of memory. I already have about 20 full length movies along with another 50-60 hours of shows from Netflix and Amazon Prime downloaded onto it, and I still have 28gb of memory left. No need to worry about streaming off of Wi-Fi or having a connection. I thought I could just stream off of Delta's GoGo Wi-Fi, but it states on their website, you are unable to stream movies from Netflix, Amazon Prime, or HBO. My daughter suggested the iPad with a large memory. If I needed more, which I doubt I will, I can always load more onto a flashdrive and plug it into the iPad.

And I hear you on this point. Last year, when I was paying the way for both myself and my daughter, saving that money and putting it towards the hunt itself was more important and certainly the wiser choice. We only paid for the upgrade on the leg from Windhoek to Doha when they dropped the price to about $300 each for the upgrade to first class. As we didn't shoot all of the animals on our list, I had some money to spare, and felt it was a nice 'perk' for my daughter to fly in first class. This time, it's just me, and the upgrade to Comfort was only about $270 each way. If my flight had the upgrade to Premium for $500-$600, that would be worth it. The long, 16 hour, flight from Houston to Doha on Qatar Air last year was packed on both departure and return. Not an empty seat on the plane. Often times you had to wait in line for the restroom, it was like a kids pre-school at times, and we were jam packed backed there in Economy. Did we survive? Yes, but for a few dollars more, I'll take the upgrade. I don't know why Delta just doesn't do away with the Comfort section on this flight and add more Premium seats? I believe they will be a huge success on flights 200/201.

Still curious if anyone has been in the situation where Delta reduces the Delta One fare price within 24-48 hours of departure?

I'm headed to Argentina next March. Is the new seating arrangement going to be available at that time?

How far out did you book? Must have been a mistake of some kind. Wow that is like winning the lottery.

Ditto the iPad with movies. I’ve had the clunky entertainment system go out on me. What a pain! I’ve tried most every time to upgrade at the gate or a couple days ahead of time. They just don’t have any deals they gobble up people’s points and fill those seats. @RogerHeintzman found a unicorn with his deal! It’s a $10K seat sorry. This is why the new PE is such a great development.
With all the hassles I’ve had next time I’m going to cut out American and drive to San Antonio and go Delta all the way. One airline makes it so much easier with guns. I will also look at Qatar and Emirates as well. But next time may be Tanzania and not Southern Africa

Phillip, I live 45 minutes from the San Antonio Airport, yet it's much cheaper to drive to Houston and fly out there. Even my daughter, who lives in the Dallas area, is driving from Dallas to fly out of Houston next week on her trip to Johannesburg. We're both flying Delta, from Houston to Atlanta, Atlanta to Jo'burg. It's a three and half hour drive for me as well for her. We pay to park at a nearby hotel for $5.70 a day. then use hotels free shuttle to airport. Not sure why it is, but for me to fly out of San Antonio adds about $700 to the ticket? Even for her flying out of DFW. It was the same last year when we flew Qatar Air, cheaper to drive to Houston than fly out of San Antonio.
