Shipping trophies from South Africa - Do not use Dip-Pack LTD

Have only done one taxidermy shipment, can't recall whether or not I was given the option to not buy it. Then again I had no intention of not buying it. Way too much $$$ involved for the crate to "fall off a truck" somewhere.

Jamindux, I am most sorry this happened to you. Insurance or not, your zebra hide was stolen and that should not have happened. I'm not sure why your shipment would be purposely targeted for not having bought the insurance. If someone wanted what was in your crate, why would they care if you had insurance or not?

WE have a new poster, so who is he? Jamindux

Who just happens to post a very negative post. Does anyone know this person. Drums his negativity very often supply's very little back up information.

Just could be a person trying to run a business down to generate business for another dip and pack or shipping company.

When a person post 32 times on this posting it makes one sit back and take another look at this person.

We do not know him...so can we trust him?

Good point James. It would be very easy for competition to slander another on a forum. Then again, way wouldn't the company respond to these accusations? Maybe they don't even know they are being accused?

Brickburn PM'd the AH member from Dip Pack. See first page of this thread.

Hope you are wrong James, but, if your right, put him in the stocks for leading us all on. A post in defense of the accusations are whats needed. Again though if this is legit, I feel (as a small business man myself) he needs some form of compensation. Very valid point nothing whatsoever on his profile....

This is my first ever attempt at posting/blogging and was suggested to me as a means to put forth the issues. I live in New England am a professional and not in any way involved in the business of hunting. Out of respect and appreciation I have tried to respond to all posts. Thought that was the proper thing to do, hence the frequency. If I seem negative I apologize but what happened to me is wrong and personal . I have twin 18 year old boys that are my favorite hunting companions. Try to take 1-2 trips a year, often international to hunt a different species in a different area. This year Utah for elk, next year Argentina for red stag.
For those of you who question the insurance issue, when my invoice came, I paid immediately so shipping process could begin ASAP.
I did not scroll though all pages to read that insurance was required separately to cover a claim and that was my error.
Hard to justify what happened under any circumstances. For those who are sympathetic, thank you. For others that believe it was my negligence, feel free to use those businesses. I have 30 trophies in my room, all of which have been shipped and this was the only instance of a crate being opened and an item stolen. Through all of this activity Those involved have not weighed in or responded to me or the attorney. You may draw your own conclusions.

I hope my last post answers your questions. Live in New England USA, a professional in health care with absolutely nothing to do with the hunting/shipping business. My sole intention is to make others aware of my issue. Feel free to draw your own conclusions.
You seem to be involved in the industry, and over protective of those involved, which is certainly your prerogative. It has been pointed out your opinion is accusatory toward me. Don't understand or agree with your position but I can absolutely assure you I have very accurately described the situation and have tried to warn others of the same. Accusing me of being an insider in the industry could not be any further from the truth and a huge stretch on your part, but again I no control over that.

Thank you for the information.

When a person has issues it would be great if the other parties would work with you to make things right.

From the sounds of things you travel often and have had great success in the past.

The only thing that i see you did wrong was change your plans on who you used in South Africa.

Last year i also was recommended to change my initial plans of taxidermy and shipping, however i went with my original plan. I have found when you change plans that when things go south...

May you find a favorable settlement..

Obviously, I wish I stuck to my original research and decision and utilized Highveld taxidermy and their services. However, the PH really forced my hand to go with Big Buck. Truthfully, I went with his request fearing I would never see my trophies again if I did not go along with his suggestion. That was clearly my fault and I regret the decision. Again, for those planning a safari, do not make the mistake I did.

I guess I understand your situation too. I hunted with a outfitter that got very upset when I suggested I would use my choice of taxidermy services. The reason is because they will not get a cut of the taxidermy business and therefore they will make less money off of you. When something like this happens, I pretty much write the outfitter off of my list of doing further business with them or even less business if it's at the start of the hunt.

And if you made a mistake and didn't buy insurance...and it was a honest mistake. Well, you see now why you buy the insurance. A lot of people years ago didn't buy auto insurance and just drove around playing a lottery game, figuring I'll drive a older vehicle and drive more carefully. Now if you do that you are going to get into big trouble. I hate insurance....all forms but understand why you need it too. You never know when your number is up!

I agree with Baydog, turning the blame to jamindux is not right, I personally as a hunter apreciate him sharing that information with us, I chersih my trophies and hopefully I will get some more in the future, and if I can avoid a bad experince like his I will be glad. One of the main reason for blogs like this is to help each other,
Jamindux Good Luck. Thaks for sharing

I just PM'd him inviting him to help out and address this situation for another AH member.
I hope it works out.

AH PM's work.

There is only half the story out and I invited Andreas to respond with his half of the story...

Andreas responded to my request to help an AH member.

"I would love to respond but this would be inapropriate as the poster has engaged an attorney and therefore all correspondence between us would be through this channel only."

Up to the Attorney's. Can't say I didn't try.

In my opinion hireing an attorney are a waist of money. I am sure this thing could have been solved without.

Like most of us are thinking.....its sad that it has gotten this far.

When I was first aware of the missing zebra rug. I immediately contacted those involved. I tried on numerous occaisions to resolve on my own, but just got finger pointing in return. On my final attempt, everyone was made aware my last resort was legal action and media and still no acknowledgement or help. So, left with no option, I am a man of my word and proceeded exactly the way I said I would. I have also reached out to the PH to try and mediate and he has presented options which I am considering. Unfortunately, I will never get my trophy zebra rug back. When you are halfway around the world and people have been paid in full, without cooperation there are very few options. In scanning some of the blogs in the forum, this is not an isolated problem, so Caveat Eptor, buyer beware.

Is this really all over 1 zebra hide??????????? Did I miss something?

Tap, that is probably what the shipping companies are saying too.
