If you think the setting is nice, you should see the lodging!

My guide knows how to pose a photo!

Thanks Dave.

Oh, did I mention that all the ranch roads are paved?
And a trained flock of 20 Mexican eagles (rather than ugly old buzzards) clean up any field dressing detritus ASAP.

The meat is back from the processor and is yummy!

Including 37 pounds of smoked German sausage from the trimmings. Great for snacks or as a main course!
My wife is handing out samples to all her friends; that and the planned BBQ celebration when we finally complete our guest house construction are taking a toll on the meat.

I may have to go hunt another soon to restock! Maybe that cow elk that eluded me at Hondo.???

If you are ever up through Farmersville, drop by for some German sausage and gun talk.

+1 on the .405 WCF cartridge. My Miroku Winchester 1895 and my Simson, both shoot 300 and 400 grain .405 loads well. The 400s at 2076 fps are a bit brisk in the 1895, but the double rifle tames them down nicely, even from a bench rest..

My dad and I use to occasionally drive through Farmersville on our way to Leonard where he was born. About 1960 when I was learning to drive. I guess it might have changed since then.

Thanks for the invite. I’m not too far from you. I live in Diana, just North of Longview. I grew up in Plano. N Central Texas is home

CRS, I am contemplating building a 45-70 Government double rifle or a .450 NE nr2 Jeffery on a Simson side x side shotgun action..according to the knowledgeable people the Simson side x side shotgun action is extremely strong and durable to be use as such a project..any comments on this statement will be much appreciated as well as opinions in this regards..(y)(y)(y)(y)

Please note that my response is on your thread asking about Simson guns.

CRS, thank you very much for this great piece of history, I probably will read it many times ...I am on the lookout for a good condition Simson 16 ga action side x side shot gun action to do the build , a conversion build 45-70 Government caliber or the .450 nr 2 NE...this will be a fun shoot rifle and hunting rifle ...I really am looking forward to this project...I did some research on how to approach this build , got some great technical information from people whom did it themselves...with Johan Greyling as my mentor I am sure it will be a great shooting/handling rifle ..(y)(y)(y)(y)
