Lion Tracking Hunt and Elephant

Got intel from a Matetsi outfitter he has had 3 lions import approved. Will let him speak here if he feels warranted

If there have been hunters who have gotten approval. It might be good to ask for copies of the paperwork with the name redacted, or references of the individuals to verify they have gotten their lions back. You mention that you have already been burned once by an outfit at the Falls.

Be careful when hunting Matetsi. It is my understanding that there is at least one unit that is owned/controlled by an individual/company on the US State Department banned list. You probably don't want to commit a Lacey Act violation.

All the best.

Yep. I’m aware but appreciate you mentioning it. To save me the research, which matetsi units are Lacey act issues? I know Africa very well. Both my parents and grandparents/etc lived there. Still have majority of my family there, i was born a year or two after they immigrated here. Probably have 40 trips back.

I made the mistake with Russ Broom of not listening carefully enough to my spider-sense and getting greedy for big ivory. Did everything right per the contract terms but never should have agreed to have monies out of the USA or outside a trusted escrow. I didn’t know personally beyond his decades of mainly positive history nor did I have a personal friend who know him. Obviously all the references checked out. Think he just over extended then rather than working the problem, ran. Lesson learned and karma is a bitch.

PM sent.

Guys, this thread has me wondering if there are any tracking hunts left for wild lion. I know that lion were hunting in this manner in Botswana before the closure there. I do not know about other areas.

My question would be when were the approvals recieved?

I'm aware of lions from Matetsi being approved right BEFORE the case but case rules started but nothing after. The devil is in the details....

Again, I could be wrong but check the dates. If import was important to me, and it isnt, I wouldn't pay a deposit on a hunt before permit was in hand prior to the hunt .

Pretty sure I remember an individual telling me about a tracking hunt he did with Jami Traut in Kalahari of SE Namibia. He was successful. This may have been ten years ago.

@WFet,

Are you aware of any case by case lion permits that have been issued, not in process but actually issued?
