Would you like a Cigar?

You're a badass.
Not Really,I'm real careful and to be honest with you I keep the ash tray on a separate bench and only enjoy a pull when I'm taking a break, same thing at the range when I'm shooting

reviving an old thread for the cigar connoisseurs among us..

in the interest if full disclosure, Norm Hooten is a personal friend..

that said.. while I admit a natural positive bias toward anything associated with Norm.. I have tried to completely remove that bias in regards to the cigar line he has just released..

Cigars are one of the few things on earth I am just as passionate about as hunting.. as evidenced in this thread and others.. I maintain a fairly large and diverse collection.. and am a regular smoker.. and am a pretty picky smoker as well...

so... to the point.. Hooten & Young Cigars is a new cigar company.. they just released their first cigar recently.. Norm is a no shit American hero.. (read more about him on the Hooten & Young website.. or google his name.. plenty of information will come up).. Norm was nice enough to send me a few of his new cigars to try out and give him some feedback on.. I decided to do a full blown review.. its posted here:

https://blindmanspuff.com/quick-cigar-review-hooten-young-gothic-serpent-toro/

long and the short of it.. it doesnt matter who owns the company that owns this stick.. its all kidding aside one of the best I have smoked in a long time.. the fact that the guy that owns the company is a great person just makes it all the better..

That's cool.... I am NO purveryor of cigars, but do like to smoke one on occasion. My personal go-to is the Ashton VSG in the Enchantment or Belicoso. I'll have to give one of those a try. One of their offerings is a 6x50 Toro. That's about the cigar that I prefer. Similar price point as well.

This was at my place this weekend. NFL draft.

Arturo Fuente - Rosado Grand Reserva

I also picked up an Oliva, and a couple of CAO Brazilias. All good smokes.

I'll have to give them a try

If you have ever seen the movie Blackhawk Down... the character "Hoot" played by Eric Bana is Norm Hooten..

Truly a great guy.. awesome patriot.. and still saving lives.. just not on the battlefield any longer...

Norm went back to school, and got his PhD recently.. he is now a pharmacist working for the VA in Florida and is working hard on the opioid epidemic and trying to help vets with addiction problems..

I'm not a cigar smoker but few months ago I've spent a very nice evening with some friends sharing a bottle of very fine Cognac. I was offered a cigar, my first, and I must say I found it quite pleasant and enjoyed it very much indeed. Being a non smoker I could still taste it in my mouth a week later which I did not enjoy but that's besides the point. The cigar was Gurkha Cellar Reserve 21 year and the Cognac Remy Martin Louis XIII. Beautiful combination.

Wow, one heck of a lot of accomplishments there. I wish him the best of luck in his VA job, it is a hugely important task.

Some of that Remy. Is $3000 a bottle. Ghurka infuses it into its Majesty Reserve cigars, at $750 a piece.

I am fan of Padrons and Camachos. Camachos seem totally fly a little bit under the radar, but I really enjoy the flavor.

I haven't tried the Camacho's yet. I subsribe to some youtube channels, where they review many different cigars. Lots of good cigars out there. One of the reviews was for the Camacho. I can't remember which one, but the guy said it was good.

@Opposite Pole I wish I had friends who shared a $600 bottle

I have a Camancho triple maduro in my humidor. I think the company is trying to reinvent themselves after the death of the original owner some years back.

I am getting ready to have a child this week or next and I'm going to hand out Ashton Crystal #1's. They have a nice sealed glass tube with it's a girl sticker on it and has a very nice box. I figure she could use it as a jewelry box when I'm dead...

Congratulations my man! My very best to you & your growing family! My God bless you all, now & forever!

Wow, how have I missed this thread. Other than hunting and fishing, cigars are my #1 vice. In fact, the guys I hunt with all bet on how many cigars I might bring on a trip. I am not a casual cigar smoker. It is habitual. Start on the way to work at 5:30AM, and then wrap up on the last one just before the mandatory shower and cleansing my wife requires before bed. Probably 5-7 during the day. My all time favorite is a Cuban Partagas Series D #4. Only one a day for those. My staple is either an El Rey Del Mundo, or Boliver in the petite corona size. A great 15-20 min smoke. I also love to smoke an Avo Synchro when at the Franklin Cigar Shop on a weekly basis talking shop or hunting tales. I read all of these post and found some good stogies to try. Nothing more perfect to me than sitting around the bush tv(campfire) and smoking on a fabulous Partagas. Just heaven on earth. And for the record, on my week in Costa Rica fishing in February, it was 120 cigars taken, none returned. A fine week indeed.
