I got my eland bull home today, going to be hard to find a spot big enough for it!! Fricking thing is huge! Its going to need 5' of vertical space and nearly 3' off the wall to keep from bumping my noggin into the dewlap. Good grief!! I think he did a pretty nice job on it though.
Think next time if there is one, photos will be the order of the day, running out of room and its just so costly When I find someplace to hang it I will post a pic or two.

I thought I was going to mount a Cape Buffalo.
Then I worked out the measurements. (only about 64 Cubic feet required. )
That terminated that idea.

Good luck finding a place to hang the monster.

Next time, think about a euro mount !

If I had it to do over again, yeah. EURO!! But this guy was special and it seemed like a good idea at the time to do a full shoulder mount.o_O A year and some later, well?????:eek::eek::rolleyes::rolleyes::confused::confused::confused:

I feel your pain. I had plans to hang my buffalo above my fireplace. My taxidermist told me it took the largest form to mount it. When I got it home, it was 1.5” too big to fit between the mantle and the ceiling. On top of that it would protrude 4’ into the room. I had looked at the mounts at Cabela’s and they weren’t nearly that big. On to plan B.
On my first safari, there was a shoulder mount of an eland over the bar. I knew then that if I took an eland, even thoughI’d love one, there is no way I can get a shoulder mount. Just not enough room. I don’t have a “trophy room”. I have mounts in the den, the office, the living room, the basement, the garage, a stairwell and even an euro wildebeest in a half bath.
I took an eland in Namibia last year, with a beautiful head tuft. Unfortunately it will become an euro, which will look cool, but not the same. I’m just going to have to settle for an enlarged photo next to it. My taxidermist is going to trade me the cape for some of his work.

Yep, I did a pedestal mount of my first buff (in my avatar). He was 42" and some change, really a special lifetime trophy. Hunted buff again 2 years later saying I wasn't going to mount another, but the one I shot was 45". Dammit, now I have to mount him, too. Add an eland and all the others, now we are building a new house with a dedicated trophy room. Of course this entitles my wife to carte blanche on the rest of it. Now THAT was one expensive buffalo!

Yeah, wife and I were talking about this today as well. We just did a new roof:eek:, ($12K), house is paid for:D:D, kids are gone:D, both retired:cool:. We aint moving(y). Just have to figure it out.o_O But this will certainly be the last big thing I mount.

A friend has a number of huge mounts that he has had done and his home only has a 7' ceiling in all the rooms.

He solved all of his problems by going down to the major chain sporting goods dealer in his town which happens to be Sportsman's Warehouse and has all of them down there. Whenever he want to take a look at them he heads down and can enjoy them in all their glory and not have to worry about the Mrs. and her home.

I think I have seen a picture, which you posted if memory serves, of your office and I doubt much else would go in there. But your up for the challenge RIGHT? That buff could have gone on the ceiling maybe??:ROFLMAO:

Nah, just need to clear out some of the kids's (and the wife) crap from the two unused bedrooms.

Now your talking.......who needs those beds when there are animals to display. Look forward to seeing a picture. Eland are big animals

Ses, You can do what I had to--- build an addition onto your house for a trophy room.

That is a problem. If you have a tv/media room you might have to do such renovations.
Ever thought of shifting??

Should have done what I did. Really didn’t take up much room. Kinda.lol

Johnnyblues,
Man, I like that pedestal mount. How much space does it take up length, width and height? I have a kudu and gemsbok wall mounted now and am going for eland in April. From what Ses wrote, I don't have wall space for my eland (if I get one). It's much bigger than I thought.
