I'm looking to go to South Africa this fall, I know it will be HOT. I want to know how I can check on an outfitter's license. A buddy of mine went over and hunted, but he didn't get his trophies, because his outfitter's license had not been renewed properly. Any advise on this matter is greatly appreciated. I have tried to find information via Google, with no success.

Thank you,

John

John,

Firstly you can ask your outfitter to provide a copy.

You can verify that with PHASA if they are a member, but it is not mandatory to be.

If you know in which of our 9 provinces it is, you can contact the nature conservation office of that province, as the outfitter has to be registered with them.

Thank you! I have emailed PHASA a few times, with no response received. I'll check out the conservation office. Much appreciation!

Forget about PHASA. I have been a member for more than 30 years but because of them supporting canned lion hunting I have left the organization. There are plenty ethical outfitters in South Africa.

Welcome GeorgiaJohn,
I suggest you start reading the hunt reports here to find out the experiences others have had with outfitters.
That is what I did and had an excellent time with Marius at KMG.He and his crew are professional to the last detail in my experience.
The planning and due diligence are part of the fun.

Check their website and contact as many references as you can! Due diligence can’t be understated.

Which province are you proposing to hunt in RSA?

All canned hunting is illegal ! You as a long standing ex member should know this. And NO Phasa does not support canned or illegal hunting .

Please PM me details on the PH & Outfitter and I will check wether he is a member of our Association- full members must have valid permit/licenses. If he is not a member we can also find out at the Provincial level for you. Appologies for no reply from the office!

I'm looking to go to South Africa this fall,......... I want to know how I can check on an outfitter's license. ........

Outfitters are licensed through the province in which they operate.
Call them up and ask about your prospective Outfitter and PH.

@GeorgiaJohn First, welcome to the forum.

Just a couple of observations and comments on your post: Are you going to South Africa in the fall in the Southern or Northern Hemisphere? If you mean the Oct-Nov, this is the spring in the Southern Hemisphere and could be warm to hot.

Have you already selected an outfitter and now doing the due diligence? Might I suggest you read several of the hunt reports available and select one of the sponsors on this sight. There are many excellent outfitters to choose from.

Welcome to our place @GeorgiaJohn Do hope you get the information you need through the inks above to thoroughly enjoy the hunt from panning to trophy display in your den back at home.

Awesome info, thank you.

Forget about PHASA. I have been a member for more than 30 years but because of them supporting canned lion hunting I have left the organization. There are plenty ethical outfitters in South Africa.

No canned hunts for me, I hear they are losing a lot of members due to this.

All canned hunting is illegal ! You as a long standing ex member should know this. And NO Phasa does not support canned or illegal hunting .
Then you have a big problem with perception in the US. It was a huge topic of conversation at SCI & DSC. Even your SA outfitters are talking about it. I had several conversations with PHs in January on this exact topic.

Happy research.

Seasons in South Africa are 6 months different than in the US. I like to go in our April which is their October and the weather is like our October. Cool nights and comfortable days, no rain, no bugs.

I do not want to highjack your post as Phasa is not what it is all about ..... I just need to put FACTS out there. We have more members than we did after the disgruntled 70 members left . The total loss was less than 10 %. We did loose 350 members due to the actions of some of these ex members from July of 2016 to end of October 2017. That is fact ..... not fake news. Most of these are joining again . And the outfitters you might have talked to are probably the 10 % that left...... Our members made out 90 % of African Outfitters at both shows that are members of Organizations . If you have to discredit your opposition to make yourself look good it says a lot about your ethics ....... Good luck on your hunt !
