A very large discovery off the southern coast of South African by the French oil company, Total, was recently announced. Oil companies typically give exploration prospects or wells interesting code names. This well was named Brulpadda, which is Afrikan for Bullfrog.

The Brulpadda find, estimated at about 1 billion barrels by Total Chief Executive Officer Patrick Pouyanne, could be enough to supply South Africa’s refineries for almost four years. That’s a boon for a country that has always been short of oil and is running out of its scant domestic supply of gas.

“It is really transformational,’’ Andrew Latham, vice president of global exploration at consultant Wood MacKenzie Ltd., said Thursday. “This could be a discovery that kickstarts a bit of a gas strategy for South Africa.’’

I hope that the benefits are not squandered.

You think they have plans to rename the play - Gupta ?

Bigger fish in the area at the moment than the Guptas. Do a search for Bosasa. Everyone's got their finger in that pie.

Can you imagine if you could stem the corruption.

1 billion barrels is nothing to sneeze at, but I wonder if it is enough to pay for the necessary infrastructure improvements. Can the existing refineries handled that crude? How much of RSA current domestic production is still coal to gasoline production?
These would not be areas of serious concern in say, Texas, but TIA.

What happened to the "we're running out of crude oil" bullshit? Wait, that was a few years ago before a bazillion barrels was being discovered in a new place about every six months. Like the global warming scam now being repurposed in to "climate change", the eggheads are certain of everything until the the egg is on their faces. Drill, baby, Drill!

Here's a prime example of your classic egghead, Dr. M. King Hubbert who predicted peak oil production of approximately 70 million barrels per day declining to around 50 million now.
Latest figures are 90 plus million barrels a day.

Electric cars all around and a huge cutback in the number of cattle alive, something about they fart too much. I think the water in the Northeast and west coast has some sort of hallucinogenic chemical in it. One would have to have an altered state of mind to propose some of their ideas.
Dont forget everyone get a free set of wings because remember no airplanes . Remember you cant fix STUPID

Last number I saw was about 30% of SA fuel comes from coal through Sasol's Secunda facility.

Hmmm...maybe I need to start applying for a job with Total.

I wonder what happens when fusion becomes a reality. Lockheed Martin keeps dropping hints about new developments

Probably wishful thinking. It would eliminate three prospective jobs for the locals.:p

Well good for them!
