Yes, I bought the rifle. I gave into AH Peer Pressure.:A Banana:

It is a Verney-Carron .470NE Double Rifle. It is not a bespoke rifle but it might as well be based on the way it fits. I purchased it at the DSC Convention from Double Guns of Nashville. They are the U.S. distributor for VC. So when you visit Nashville take a break from the music scene and go visit their store. They have some amazing rifles and shotguns!

The following are questions for you experienced double gun owners:

1. How do you prepare a new double rifle for its first trip to the range? ie. Clean, oil, and any other preparations.

2. The rifle is regulated for Norma PH 500grains. I am not a hand loader, yet. What are some good sources for this ammunition?

3. Any other information, advice, or fun stories that I don't yet know to ask about please share.

Wow! Beautiful rifle!

There are plenty of guys on here with a lot more savvy than me regarding the care of these rifles.

My main, double-centric concern was always to be sure to lube the hinge pin/hook areas of contact with a moly-containing grease. Lubriplate or similar.

Congratulations, love the VC's!

It is more than likely on the shelf at Gordy and Sons in Houston if you get in a bind.

Thanks for the info. (y)

Love the round body action. Get the correct loads so your first trip out won't be depressing. Remember you have been dealing with MOA rifles most of your life. With open sights, think of this rifle as an accurate slug gun and remember game is going to be within 100 meters or you won't shoot. Do that, and you can be happy with those first 4-shot "groups" from the range. Assuming, you are getting 3-inches or so at fifty yards, you have a huntable thumper and one that can likely be tuned very tightly indeed. If you don't want to start the whole reloading thing (I gave it up years ago), you can send the rifle to Lance Hendershot https://hendershots.net/ and he will develop a load (I would suggest a solid and a soft) for that specific rifle in his "Extreme" range. Unlike, the folks at VC who will get it good enough, Lance can ring every bit of accuracy out of it. Or you can get all that "stuff" and do it yourself!

Congrats! You are going to love it!

We could work out an arrangement where you could pick some up. I could make a quick run to Houston. My sons have taught me to appreciate fine whiskey. I am sure I could bring you some for your troubles. We could share a dram and tell some stories. :D

Thanks for the tip. (y)

That website is fun. I already have a phone call into them. (y)

Please tell Lance that Joe Taylor sends his best. And you want to chat with Lance about it - not the hired help. ;)

Beautiful double rifle. I envy you. Congrats.

One handsome tool!

Jfet you asked for advice on what needed to be done for its' first trip to the range. You've been given that, now from one grand dad and or "Opa" to another, take good care if it because you know it will wind up being "Bear Cubs" first deer rifle.;);)
