I have a nice left hand Ruger 9.3x62 but I want a little more horsepower for my next rip to Africa. So I'm throwing it out there....which should I get, a 375 H&H Left handed CZ, or re-barrel another LH Ruger to .458 Winchester

ikeda if you already have a Ruger set up the way you like it then I would go with just re-barreling it, if not then I would go with the CZ all of the rugers that I've owned or shot not including the Ruger #1 need to have a better trigger system put on them or have the trigger re-worked the Ruger Hawkeye in a 300 Win Mag that I used in 2010 had such a hard trigger pull I would find myself jerking the gun and cause me to make misses my PH tried to adjust it but couldn't make a difference.

I plan on keeping my 9.3x62 as is. I love it and it will take care of 95% of my hunting needs. I am trying to decide between the .375 and .458 for my "big" rifle.

then by all means go with the .458 sometimes Bigger is Better!:thumb:

The 458 is fantastic, proven, go for it....

375 is a pretty marginal increase from the 9.3 If you need more, you need more. Get the 458.

Look at the 416's Rigby & Remington the 404 Jeffry and 450 Rigby & Dakota and 458 Winchester & Lott.

You are looking to move up see if your friends have one and see if you can shoot them.

Now this is my kind of thread! Go bigger 458 all the way!

I would be very interested in a .404 but no one makes one left handed. So I'm limited to the .375 (H&H or Ruger) and .458 (if I re-barrel).
That is how I got my 9.3x62....re-barreled a Ruger 3006, and it is great.

Granite Mountain makes a left handed action appropriate for 404 (or anything else you may want for that matter). You are looking at a full custom rifle, though. The lead time on my action was about a year. They make the left handed actions in batches, so it also kind of depends on where you are in the cycle as to how long it takes.

I would say try to look at cross canyon arms they are making great actions for any size cartridge left or right hand. Brad Stair is a great gunsmith that has been building rifles for over 30 years and is a native Texan. As I see your from texas he runs a hunting show called CSE outdoors too. Great rifles custom made at not to big of prices

Well I took the plunge. Bought a Ruger in 300 Win Mag. and had it re-barreled to .458 Win Mag by the same outfit that re-barreled my 30-06 Ruger to 9.3x62. The barrel is 22.5" long (1" longer than my 9.3) and it has a very businesslike look to it. It has a barrel mounted front sling swivel and a Masterpiece banded front sight base from New England Custom Guns. I installed two cross-bolts, one behind the recoil lug, and the other in front of the trigger. I'll glass bed the action as soon as I get the stock back from having a real recoil pad installed. I'm looking forward to taking her out to the range.

Dazzle us with pictures of your new rifle when you get it all together.

That should take care of the 5% of your shooting.

Being left handed can be a real pain when it comes to rifles! And really expensive!

dont know about that royal27 im a lefty with everything i do
ive only ever used right handed firearms and never once used a left handed gun ive tried to use right handed bows but only ever string slapped myself
as a matter of fact i cant see myself doing any shooting with a left handed firearm ive been using right handed guns for 30 years and just cant picture it any other way

Well once you try a left handed bolt gun, you'll see what a difference it will make. My first left handed bolt was a Savage 110 in 264 magnum. Crappy rifle with a terrible bore but it was a joy to work left handed. It was about the only left handed bolt gun available to a person of normal means. Now I wouldn't have any bolt but a left handed one, and the selection is pretty comprehensive. They are so much more convenient and faster to operate.

a mate that i hunt deer with always says the same thing he ussually borrows one of my firearms and has just picked up his first left handed gun a 300 win mag in a stainless /syntheic ruger m77 and only yesterday rang me and said i need to try it .
so maybe i will but im in no hurry .
ican see that it would be quicker on the follow up shot but i dont think i want to change

Am a left handed shooter myself and just recently bought my first left handed gun handed gun still a little a coward trying too work the bolt but I'm not going back too a right handed action

I have a left-handed 404 Jeffrey made by Montana Rifle Company. Took a Buff and Tuskless on my last trip with it. Depends upon how much money you want to spend. Also have a left-handed Winchester 375H&H. Love it, if you can find a used one would highly recommend.
