Hello all! I don't have a lot of hunting friends to share this with so I'm posting here. Got my hunt booked for late April of this year! Mostly going to focus on kudu and see what happens from there. Now to start planning and packing, then repackaging then doing it again heh. Can't wait!

Congrats, so then in May we should expect to see your screen name change to Eventually-Africa Again? ;)

Ha, your right @ActionBob ! I've been once already so....granted I did not pick this user name with a lot of fore-thought. But I'm attached to it now so I suppose I'll keep it. Also @YancyW your right to, I was planning it out in my mind the whole trip home! Unfortunately the rough draft has been overridden due to some unexpected financial obligations but I want a Kudu so badly that I couldn't see not going at all this year. I also planned it for late April to catch the rut. Hopefully they will be too focused on their ladies fair to notice me as I bungle my way through the bush! After the Kudu it's mostly going to be a pop-up hunt to see what Africa offers. That's assuming I get the Kudu though, I tried last time I was out that way but the one I was after skunked me fair and square.

There is a sentence I have heard many times: "I want a Kudu so bad....."

I'm with you. Good luck with this most worthy trophy.

Y'all are not alone in the 'want a kudu so bad' thing. I have been on stand (bow hunter) for ~30 days in Africa and have had ZERO opportunities at a mature kudu! Is it June yet???

I hope you @Eventually_Africa have better luck with kudu than I've had so far!

Thank you. The guide and I agreed that if it took 8 days of the 8 day hunt to get a good Kudu that's fine. I would, of course, hope we could get it sooner but I'm willing to put in the effort to take one. It will be walk and stalk during the rut and hopefully they will be so focused on their partners that I will go relatively unnoticed!

Hope you have a great trip!

Congrats! Glad you went ahead and got it booked (y) Where will you be going? And who are you hunting with?

Eventually Africa please permit me to take some Umbridge with your opening statement. Just about all of us on AH are virtual friends. Think about this for a moment how many guys and gals are there on AH that you wouldn't want to share a campfire and a beer with? I can't speak for you but IMHO there are very few. So thanks for sharing the good news of your upcoming hunt. P.S. I'm still looking for my 55" + Kudu as well.

Took me several tries just to get one over 50"! I think many of us have had a nemesis critter that we struggled with. I have had my share of such...:eek::D Good luck on the quest!

A thousand pardons @Shootist43 you are correct, there are many friends here! And as for a campfire and a beer of course! Now, as to a 55+ inch Kudu I'd love one, but honestly I'd also love your standard "representative sample" heh. I didn't mean to give the impression that I was hunting with a tape measure, I just mean that I'm really going to focus on Kudu this time around.

I hear that! It was the only animal that I stalked but did not take last time and, as I have said in the past, it was still a lot of fun even if I came out the looser. Sadly that particular Kudu was taken later in the season so I won't be able to go another round with him, but I'm sure one of his brethren will be more than willing to put me to the test!

Eventually Africa, the combined trophies from both of our hunts taken by my sons and me are displayed in our hunting cabin. We already have a "representative" Kudu on the wall. I spent six days of an eight day hunt looking for a 55" minimum Kudu. For the year previous to my hunt the Outfitter claimed their average for the year was 53 & 7/8". Given that average I didn't think I was being presumptuous in looking for a big one. Since my hunt, several guys have taken large Kudu off of the properties I hunted one being over 59". I was lucky enough to take two SCI Gold Animals on that hunt and came home a happy camper. I'd still like to take a big Kudu but at 75 my opportunities are dwindling.

Good luck with your Safari. Remember if the first curl is not out to the ends of its ears don't even bother, look for another Kudu.

Always glad to see someone else with kudu fever. Something tells me you’ll have him down in short order. Hopefully the first day. Good luck and I can’t wait to hear the story and see the pics.

Sincerely, BD
