Holland and Holland 375 Magazine Rifle guidance/opinions

Best of luck. If it is validated as an H&H buy it. If it is validated and you decide against it you know who to call! You know you must take this rifle to Africa if you buy it!

Guy at H&H in New York can do it. You just need an expert to identify its authenticity, you couldn’t care less what a gunsmith has to say about the gun at $7000.

No hole in the barrel? Shoots backwards? Parts not original? Was originally chambered in 240 Apex? Wrong bluing? New grip cap? NOTHING MATTERS AT $7000. Gunsmith inspections are appropriate if you’re paying $20,000+ for this dodgy looking gun.

You cannot get screwed on this gun at $7000 if it’s real. That’s the only consideration I would make/take on it to decide what to do. $7000 doesn’t get you a cogswell & harrison .375 with scope and accessories these days. Hell, you’d spend $7000 on a Dakota.
I noticed the stippling on the top of the single square bridge as well... I have done a bit of stippling myself and it just seems like it was done hastily by someone who has never done it. I would assume the craftsmen at H&H knew how to use a stippling tool with great skill. Not the patchy looking stippling on this one.

Good day all, last communication with Holland and Holland was that there is a good chance that this is one of theirs but the serial number is a problem. They would need to see it to be sure. So I left it at that. The last I checked it was still available.

Could you PM me the seller info? I'd like to purchase it potentially.

Hi Guys

So I took the plunge and made the first payment on the gun today....

Special thanks to CLS(Chuck) for him passing along the info of the seller and all his correspondence with Mr Utermark

I will keep you guys update when I receive the rifle

Cheers

I don’t like that the bolt, safety flag, and bolt release all have serial number 36, but the gun has a serial number ending in 69. Not a showstopper, nor is the Birmingham nitro proof...I just don’t like the ambiguity it creates.
The 36 Serial Numbers are Original Oberndorf Mauser. It's a good thing.

Hi Guys

Just received the rifle today...I am super happy.
The action is definitely a original Single Square bridge Oberndorf Magnum Mauser Action.

I have taken a few pictures to compliment the original pictures that was posted

For those of you that may know. How much would it cost to send to H&H London for their inspection and report? And does H&H Dallas have this capability?

You lucky dog. There's no way I would've passed on it based on the pictures. My guess is a Jeffery retailed Mauser then further finished by Holland and Holland. Based on Birmingham Proof Marks. Good job!

Dallas not to my knowledge, they are mainly a jewelry store.

I understand the rimless to be roughly an 8x57 necked up to .375--a useful game getter but not a heavyweight for DG, for sure. Lovely rifle, though.

I'm glad someone here picked this one up. Congrats.

375 Rimless is same as 375 H&H. This one built on a Magnum Mauser as they should be.

I may have misunderstood, and was thinking "beltless".

I takes 5 375 H&H catridges and feeds as smooth as melted butter!!

I know it is a big risk buying it without confirmation to its true lineage, but after having it in hand and taking it appart I feel better and better about the leap of faith

Thanks Moosemind! I think you might be on to something.

Now we need to know if you can hit something with it. I assume it is in safe shape for firing (... should I assume that?)

I've been wondering about the sights. How does it work out when you have the peep sight AND the folding leaves. What do you use for what?
