Nice marketing piece, but it is directly contradicted by the current Government's well publicised intent to pass Constitutional amendments that WILL allow expropriation of land without compensation. Privately held land that is not in use is already specifically targeted for expropriation, even by his own words in the speech. He does not say other private land is not being looked at. To say there is no current or long term intent to expropriate private land is a straight out lie.

I understand the sensitivity of this matter.

But for the hunting colleagues, if I take some examples I can say, even in worst case of expropriations of hunting lands I dont think it will stop hunting practices.
Possibly it can degrade them (even seriously) like Zimbabwe model of land reform. But even with this, Zim is still popular safari destination.

On European continent in recent history we had another example of total land expropriation, for example in Yugoslavia, after ww2.
The hunting areas, all of them, became state owned.

But very soon, foreign hunting guests were frequently visiting and did successful hunting, for decades. (esapecially Italian hunters)
And there was no security problems as well.

(It would be interesting if there are some Italian hunters to confirm if they were hunting in YU at that time)

So, most probably it will not stop hunting in worst exprop legalised scenario - because it brings cash, but it will definitely affect farm owners out of their income and living, which is terribly unjust.

I do hope for the best solutions and developments in this case.

O, BTW, after 2 hunts in Namibia, RSA is still on my wish list on some of the future hunts!

Personally I will not go to SA as long as this idealogy is present. While I may not have my finger on the pulse as those that live there I do know some SA's who live in canada and are very concerned about this.

Expropriation is just a nice word for legalized theft. "Land that is not being used" is another one I like. PH I have hunted with down there seems OK with the whole thing, says it will be good for the country overall. He says there are a lot of absentee owners and "returning" the land to "folks" that will work the land, is a good thing. He also felt that Trump was responsible for tanking the SA economy by talking about this issue and "not knowing what he was talking about". Guess its a matter of philosophy and perspective.

Trump has tanked his own country's farm economy with his trade/tariff war. And he claims to "love farmers". Pretty damned "tough love". But he is pretty far removed from the farm. So for now the effect he is having is to take money out of farmers pockets and line Steel Mill owner's pockets with it. And I'd guess he is doing it with all the best intentions.... Many of us hope it "works out in the end".... As we struggle to survive that long.

Really no idea why we would expect him to know anything about the South African economy. South African politicians seem very capable of screwing up their economy just fine.

I only wish the damned politicians would get out and stay out of farming and the markets. They all screw up everything they touch.

I agree, the US govt should stop subsidizing farmers to the tune of billions of dollars a year.

Yea and something like 80% of that budget is to pay for food stamps. Frustrating that money comes out of the farm bill and counted as "aid" to farmers.

US farm policy is a cheap food policy. Us farmers would ultimately be better off without the "help".

Personally, I leave other countries' politics to them. I have hunted a number of times in Zimbabwe while farm confiscations were going on and Mugabe was fine-tuning his corruption game, and it never impacted me. I have hunted countries which are anything but democracies. I've never had a problem, and I've never seen my hunting as any kind of support for governments or their policies. I expect I will continue to hunt South Africa, at least so long as good hunting experiences are to be had.

If we as hunters are going to limit our hunting democratic countries, or those whose government policies we agree with, we won't be doing much hunting in Africa or most of Asia.

my hunting in my country has been super, I have driven and flew all over the united states on hunts with my rifles and shotguns with no problems at all, and not taking my cloths off or a finger stuck up my arse, changing money,vat tax and tipping every one who did or tried to carry my bags. I,m in the prosses of planning my sixth and last hunting trip to africa in 2019 and every trip as added more BS than the last one.

Africa can on many levels be difficult to deal with. But it all comes with hopefully having that experience of a lifetime along with precious memories and lifelong friend's. Hunting in general is becoming much more difficult no matter where you are hunting. Look at the politics here in our country and Canada. They are hardly hunter friendly. Anti hunting forces are HARD at work to stop our sport and our way of life. I hope somehow the powers to be in Africa have the moral capability to understand what wildlife means. GREED at work over there for sure.
