Flying Delta out of JFK? BEWARE?

Please let us know when they do. Its incredibly scary that people can so aggressively damage firearms with impunity. It's not like breaking a stock would be a quiet endeavor! What if they spiked a barrel! Double check your guns on arrival folks. This is not ok.
I remember hunting in Kansas, outfitter had me in a local hotel. I always bring two guns wherever I hunt and I am absolutely anal about making sure they are shooting well at the range. I left my case under the bed unlocked not thinking anything bad would happen. Next time I shot the gun at the range I left under the bed it was shooting 5 inches high and 6 left!

Holy cow!!!! Sure hope there is video and someone is in serious trouble

What is a TSA approved lock? The little Ps'OS that they can get into at random? TSA locks don't belong on rifle cases, only locks the owner can open.

We keep telling people on this forum NO TSA LOCKS but they'd rather believe some clueless TSA shirt they talked with over the phone. He'll be the one that wouldn't know an extractor from an ejector. So here ya go folks. Keep putting TSA locks on gun cases (NO, those cheap latch locks aren't any good either) and risk getting them stolen or destroyed like this guy. Some gun cases have hasps for four locks. I believe when locked with four BIG master or other locks, these are the best.
Sermon over.
No, not yet. THROW THOSE TSA LOCKS IN THE TRASH!

That's got anti-hunter written all over it. Aside that, throw those TSA locks in the trash.[/QUOT

I have a good friend who is a TSA supervisor and he says you are not supposed to use TSA locks on firearms cases.

Wow, that is BS, and I hope the bad guys get caught. If Delta is not responsible for this, then who is? JB, this sucks in more than one way, and feel sorry for what your friend is going through.

on my five hunting trips to Africa I used rented firearms, I would like to have used my own firearms, but i would hate to lose them to theft or damage.

I have taken 54 animals in RSA, including DG, all with borrowed guns, A total of 8 different guns and not 1 lost animal. But it sucks what happened to your guns, hope it all works out.
My problem is that I shoot left handed, guns available are all for right handed shooters.

Supposedly their is an outside company that is contracted to handle the baggage. Guess you would have to contact them. Then what hire a lawyer? Who pays his fee? By the time you pay him you'll probably loose money. Hopefully their is video so it indisputable.

Actually there are several companies involved, big airport....

I know Swissport handles air/ramp side for customer service like baby strollers and helping assist terminal side like wheelchair passengers.

Command Security Corp does baggage on the belts in some terminals. World Wide Flight Services is also a player down there.

Global Security Associates is supposed to be the oversight for handlers and luggage theft.

Each of these companies gives out a bid and this is just terminal 5 I think. Although I see Swissport all over the place at JFK. I know someone who works at JFK, we chatted about it.

But wages are low for the area....$13/hr doesn't go very far even in Queens.

Anyway we had a discussion about those Plano cases on another forum and after looking at one I'll stick to Aluminum or Pelican depending and my own Masterlocks and would fly out of there tomorrow. Not impressed at all with the Plano pretending to be a Pelican, its not even close. Actually I fly out mid November and not changing a thing; and I carry insurance thats good world wide (and at home) on firearms when traveling its cheap.

Talk about coincidences. Today, I'm sitting at a traffic light behind some jitterbug in a Jeep and there's some sort of storage container on the roof festooned with two of those tiny, el cheapo combination TSA locks. Just proves you can get a laugh just about anywhere.

Who in the hell buys those things any way?
Coming back thru J burg Delta made us remove our ammunition from our gun case, luckily I had extra locks and we put it in our checked bags
and locked the zippers. now that made me feel safe! lol

Hope they catch the bad guys!

The biggest mistake is flying out of JFK .had a friend who had all kinds of problems there and this guy is nothing but above board .

I will respectfully disagree with you on that. Although it may be true your friend has some sort of problem at JFK, I’ve been flying out of their for hunts since 1983 and have never had any issues. As a matter of fact I’ve mentioned several times how courteous the port authority police have always treated me. I will say though US customs can be hit and miss but never had any real issues with them other than that particular officer wasant the friendliest. If you act like a gentleman you’ll be treated as one. I just hope the situation my friend had with his guns is an isolated one.

I guess you are possibly right .I just have to reply with what I have been told by a few different people I know that they would walk overseas before flying out of JFK.

@johnnyblues, it's been the better part of a month since this incident. Has your friend received any news?

My cases have holes for 4 locks and I use them all. Get some good big Sesame locks with a 4 digit combo. These are full size locks, heavy and rugged. DO NOT use TSA crap. Most airlines will tell you to use your own. Once you go through TSA at the US airport no one is authorized entry to your case until you get to JNB. And get a first class case like Pelican, SKB or similar and make it the best you can afford. It's cheap insurance.
