A friend of mine stopped by today after his hunt in a Texas. He flew delta out of JFK, checked in his guns as usual. When he and another hunter retrieved their gun cases they noticed they were broken into. This is what they discovered.

Port authority police detectives are all over this. Delta already saying there not responsible. Let’s see once the videos are reviewed and an arrest is made. Police are certain they will arrest someone. One of those rifles was a custom made gun 5k...

Wow, I have flown out of there a fair number of times and not a hint of issues.

What did they have for locks?

Did they cut them?

I too have flown out of there for almost 35 years of traveling to hunt. They had TSA approved locks. Don’t know what they did but the gun cases were also damaged from breaking into them.

That’s delta for you I guess. Ban trophy imports from Africa and now this.

We just got home 2 weeks ago from South Africa. We saw our bows in Atlanta. We had to get them from customs in the gun room. My Plano case had a broken foot and lock/latch. Delta told me to take pictures. We proceeded to put them on the plane and we were directed to go through TSA ag. She inspected our cases and put them back on the plane. They did not show up in Kansas City 6 hours later. Eventually, both cases were sent to TX for repair, even though they could not repair it.
We finally got them 5 days later.
When my husband opened his SKB case, broadheads were laying all over the case. The new string was nicked in several places.
The broadheads were nicked from banging on the bow for 5 days all over the US.
TSA checked the videos, but said that the broadhead box was never touched and it was closed properly.
The Plano case was broken, but everything in it was fine.

That’s is very concerning because I’m flying through JFK next month (with guns) on my way to SA/Zim. Hopefully they figure this out quickly and your friends get reimbursed!

That's got anti-hunter written all over it. Aside that, throw those TSA locks in the trash.

Once the bag leaves the check in, the company that services JFK's baggage takes over; they're not Delta employees and most airlines don't even have a rep on the air side of any airport unless they get called; not the way it works.

Not exonerating the airline responsibility for having luggage properly taken care of; but Delta and trophies and such aren't a factor here.

Infuriating! If I were only PG hunting, I’d probably consider a rental gun. DG, I want my own I have practiced with.

I have taken 54 animals in RSA, including DG, all with borrowed guns, A total of 8 different guns and not 1 lost animal. But it sucks what happened to your guns, hope it all works out.

Please let us know when they do. Its incredibly scary that people can so aggressively damage firearms with impunity. It's not like breaking a stock would be a quiet endeavor! What if they spiked a barrel! Double check your guns on arrival folks. This is not ok.

Our recent return from SA through Atlanta had us receive our luggage and firearms. No issues 2.5 hours later my bag was ripped open and no gun case to be found. Was quite nerve racking until the case was delivered to our door 8 hours later

Fortunately no worse for wear

What is a TSA approved lock? The little Ps'OS that they can get into at random? TSA locks don't belong on rifle cases, only locks the owner can open.

A lot of people have had problems flying Delta with firearms. They are not sportsman friendly. They will stick you $200 bucks if your fishing pole is over 60 in.

That's the plan brother, detectives seemed pretty confident they will find out who is responsible. Now getting reimbursed....Delta is already telling him no. Lets see what happens if an arrest is made.
