Big-game hunters infuriated by Trump elephant trophy debacle

Trump is doing fine. It is a small issue in the grand scheme of things. However....if he would just delegate it to Zinke and then shut his mouth and keep from tweetimg about it the change could be made and the noise would die quickly.

I'm inclined to agree with you. If Trump wants it done he should keep off Twitter and just let it happen. There will be an uproar for a little while but eventually the noise dies down. I don't look for a return to the sane policies of the past until after 2020. In the meantime elephants suffer and hunters still get the blame. It seems facts no longer matter to much of the population.

Well here's some good news: FWS yesterday approved the import permit for the black rhino trophy from Namibia. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will allow an American hunter who killed a black rhino to import the animal into the United States. Two hunting organizations, the Dallas Safari Club Foundation and Conservation Force, auctioned off the rhino hunt in December 2016 for $275,000. The auction was won by a Texas billionaire who hunted the animal on February 26, 2017, at the Veronica Game Lodge in Namibia. Conservation Force then filed the import permit application on April 12, 2017.

With the threat of bans the Auction lost half it's value by keeping prospective bidders away.

Just back from Zim with lots of this talk on the subject.

There’s hope that the ban will be lifted, but there’s just as much concern the ban may not be back dated to when the ban was put in place under obama.

I hope it doesn’t play out that way, but there’s not a ton of light at the end of the tunnel yet

I have been told that the gates will open after the mid-terms.

After he won I booked my Namibian Leopard hunt after He took the Oath of Office.
It's very simple if I don't get my Leopard home before Nov. 2020 He won't get my vote. It's just as simple and personal as that.

I hope there is some sarcasm here and you're not basing your vote on the presidential election on getting fur and teeth back. However, if you are, that is your prerogative I guess.

Presumably, the only way we achieve our goals as international hunters through 2024 is with President Trump. Hillary would have derailed our cause more than Mr. Obama, with the future 2020 Democratic nominee following the same path I'm sure.

Our only choice, and so far better than where we were before, is allowing President Trump the time a capacity in addition to and aided by the urging of our community to the appropriate personnel and agencies.

I'm trying to be optimistic but I seriously think Trump gives nary a crap about hunting and conservaiton. Literally the only link we have in Zinke and apparently he and several years worth of elephant science can be overwritten by a tweet. See this is why we just need to let CITES take care of everything.
according to ron thomson of the true green alliance, cities is controlled by the antis and has been for years.african outfitters mag runs a column every issue.interesting reading, was having problems receiving my by monthly issues so cancelled.

I'm not saying this statement doesn't have some merit, but if CITES was controlled by anti's for years, how come they give quotas for CITES animals at all?

Man I hope this is not true. If so this truly is the end of big game hunting in Africa.

Infuriated seems pretty strong. Did I think he would help more? Yes, of course, and I am disappointed he sent that tweet (responding to complaints from people who would have never voted for him anyway!) But, compared to the alternative, we are still very fortunate.

I would hope that hunters would not abandon this president over this stuff, there is much, much more at stake than hunting trophies. Like the future of America! Just sayin'!;);)
