Thanks to a so-called friend I am now addicted to Africa. Did buff in RSA...then plains game there. Now I have this uncontrollable itch to hunt an elephant. I'm looking at an own-use hunt for elephant with Jamy Traut in Namibia while my buddy (wounded warrior hunt) hunts plains game at Jamy's place nearer Windhoek. After my ele hunt, I'd join my buddy for a couple days before we come home. Critique my plan:
- Jamy Traut. I just can't find an unhappy client. Anyone have a bad experience. PMs welcome.
- ATL to JNB (overnight) to WDH...buddy drives w/PH to farm/ranch and I fly to Caprivi Strip. I join buddy at farm for a couple days before we fly home.
- Replica tusks based upon measurements. Taxidermy of Springbok and Black Wildebeest. All assumes success.

Your thoughts and suggestions are welcome, as always.

Have fun.

Jamy has a good reputation, as you have found.

I have not hunted with Jamey but good friends have. He is first rate. I recommend Africa Sky guest house in JoBurg. It is outstanding. If you prefer to stay at the airport be sure to eat at Quills restaurant in the Intercontinental.

Out of curiosity, what is an ‘own use’ ele hunt and what does it cost?

It means you leave it there.

I leave in 17 days on a own use hunt it cost me $22000 for Elephant and Hippo. Most of that is day rates. I think trophy fees are $10000 for both. On this hunt we are supplying meat for a tribal get together, and are using tribal tags.

That’s a very good deal. Will you be able to have molds made off the original ivory in country or reproduce off pics and measurements?

I should be able to if I want

Maybe it’s moot but, Windhoek area has mountain zebra and gemsbok which should not be overlooked time permitting. Best of luck, ele in the Caprivi is way. Jacques

I haven't hunted with Jamie but have visited with him a few times. He is a great guy.

All the best on your decision.

I have visited with Jamy at DSC and found him to be a very nice gentleman. He has a excellent reputation, the current Safari Magazine has a write up on him in the PH Spotlight.

Jamy and his lovely wife Rentia are two of the very best in the business. Hunted buffalo and plains game with him several years ago, and have never known anyone to have less than a first rate experience. Have a great hunt.

I saw that and shared the info with my hunting partner. I got him an SCI membership, but he's blind, so... He said "see, it's a sign...we should hunt with this guy..."

Living life like a lion for 1 day is better than living life like a jackal for 100 years.
