Where at in Canada are you? My mom grew up in Southern Alberta and I still have a ton of family (her whole side) in Calgary, Lethbridge, Magrath and around there.

What an incredible trophy Bob.

How did you hunt that guy?

We spent 3 nights hunting this one, they are a nocturnal animal and only move at night so I hunted him at night with a light. We seen several but when we got close they turned out to be females then we spotted a couple set of eyes off in the Pineapple field and went to check them out, Rusty told me a 3 inch one was an awesome trophy but we would settle for a 2 1/2 inch if that was all that showed. well we went up one row then down another and Rusty says were did they go? we look back down the row we just came down and there they were they must have closed their eyes as we went by. So we start to back up Rusty says get ready I'll tell you when to shoot! so we keep backing and keep backing Now just so you know I'm hunting with a 300 Win Mag 180 gr Barnes X bullets for an animal that weighs about 15 pounds. So we back to within 15 feet and they have their eyes closed Rusty says when they open their eyes shoot the one on the right and he whistles they open their eyes and the one on the right goes down. Everyone is jumping and hollering and shaking my hand and I haven't even had time to figure out what had happened! They then told me the one on the left would have went 2 1/2 inches so we measure the one I got and it was right on the 3 inch mark. Just doesn't get any better than that!

No it does not. Congrats.

Are the deer at the Royal park in danger as he stops-over in England?

It only took 4 years to return to hunt the deer of Richmond Park, UK.

Ham Gate.

Try a stroll through here in shorts! My shins are paying the price this morning.

I started by stalking the small stuff. This little fella was hunting insect along a trail. Incredible to watch a bird of prey chasing bugs on the ground like a Roadrunner.

After some up and down and plenty of off trail searching for sign......
Poof, like magic. Antler.
For an instant I thought it might be..... but the size was a little off.

After watching for a little while and enjoying it fully, it was back at it.
The slow methodical searching in the cover for anything resembling my quarry.

Only seeing pictures of Red Deer I only had an inkling of what I was after.
Scanning the forest through the undergrowth, you know how you search for those little things. Ear's, Antler, colours....
I was slowly scanning right to left when I came back, doing an instinctive double take.
That colour did not fit.
I had been doing double takes repeatedly on large Oak branches that had been chopped to the ground and look like bedded deer for the entire stalk.
This colour was too rich.

I had struck gold. There was no way that colour was anything other than what I was after.
My very first Red Stag.
I'll tell you now. It's a thrill, and I won't forget it any time soon.

I did manage to bump into some other relatives.

The deer are all safe. Honest.

Nice pics.
England is beautiful.
Also the food has become better in the last years :)
