Anyone on here have a CZ550 with Talley CZ550 quick detachable steel rings that fit on the CZ dovetails? I'm interested to know how you like them and if you've had any issues. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have them on at least 3 CZ 550 rifles from 404 Jeffery to 505 Gibbs, love them and never had a problem. Just make sure they are tight. They come back to zero when you remove and place the scope back on.

I also have them on 3 rifles. I like them. To ensure repeatable return to zero, I make sure to push them forward slightly as the thumb lever tightens up when re-attaching. That's about the only tip I have. They have always done the job for me.

I have used Warne, Talley, Leupold. I use Alaska Arms now. None were bad but these return closest to zero.

Thanks alot guys, sounds like that's what I'll go with unless any of you have some negative input regarding bolt clearance or scope height with the factory stock. I have some of their aluminum 1 piece base/rings and have no complaints.

I've used Talley QD's and switched to Warne QD's.
No real issue with the Talley, but the Warne give me a better return to zero.

Do you suspect or know why? Thanks

I have used the QD Talleys on a CZ550 in .416 Rigby and .404 Jeffery. I prefer the screw detachable over the lever only because I do not care for the lever protruding but that is only a personal thing. I would suggest using friction paper ( or maybe rosin) if you are using a Swarovski scope because the the skin is a bit more slick than some others. Wayne from AHR passed that on to me when he and I had a discussion about that problem a while back. To be fair the slippage was with a pair of old permanent type single screw rings on a .350 Remington model 7. I can't say which rings offer the best repeatability as I only have the feature in case of primary scope failure and have been fortunate. IMHO the Talleys are more aesthetically pleasing than the others brands mentioned but that is only an opinion. I have done some construction work for Dale Storey and Roger M Green in their custom shops and it was Talley rings that they both used on personal rifles that I was fortunate enough to be shown. I figured if they were good enough for those guys should be good enough for me. I have not tried the Alaska Arms yet but if AHR carries them they are no doubt good to go.

I did get some loss of zero with the Talley, but it was minor...less than 1" at 100 yards.
Since switching to Warne, I've had no issues with loss of zero.
That being said, if AHR is recommending Talley rings...Wayne is a pro, I would listen.
It is possible that I was doing something wrong with the Talleys or maybe the Warne rings just work better for me.
In any case, I use Warne now.

No, I haven't talked to AHR about this and don't know what Wayne's preference is. I'm sure they all work pretty well. I'm just looking for some opinions from experience. Thanks a lot for giving yours.

Thanks for the tips, I do like the friction paper, I've tried that before and I think it works well.

I have used the Warne QD with no issues on my CZ550. I have several scopes that I use on it and they have all stayed on zero.

I have used Talley QD rings, and while I haven't found any real issues with return to zero, there are other types which I much prefer.

I suggest you have a look at Recknagel. They make a "pivot" mount which I find much easier and faster to use than the Talley mounts. On a pivot mount the front ring fits into a hole on the mount and then you swing the scope into the back mount until it clicks into place. Takes one hand and seconds (or less). Taking it off is not a lot harder. Push a lever, swing the scope away from the back mount, and lift it out of the front mount. Done.

I put a set of them on my CZ 550 416 Rigby and didn't have a single problem though my load build up or hunting trip, probably 100+ rounds. They held true every time I detached them and reattached them. both at home and in Africa. Our airline carrier required that the scope be off the rifle for transport (beats me why) and the QD rings were very convenient for this. Highly recommend them

Thanks for the input, gives me some more to think about.

Another brand of pivot mounts is EAW.
http://www.eaw.de/en/products/pivot-mounts.html
Available from NECG.

This type of mount is incredibly easy to use with absolute return to zero, no questions.
The downside is the price, often costing more than $500, but you get what you pay for.

The good thing about having a rifle with QD capability is being able to use more than one scope.
But once again, the issue of price has now just doubled if you have two scopes to mount.

The choice is yours.
Buy once, cry once.

Thanks, I have heard of EAW but it's just too rich for my blood.

You kidding me?
I can't afford the gun to put them on, not to mention the pivot mounts.
OK, I could afford them...but I stopped earning money that way a long time ago.
