A century ago, 200,000 lions roamed Africa.
Today, fewer than 20,000 run wild.

Twenty Four Lions will be the seed population that will reverse this trend in the Zambeze Delta , an ecosystem of over 2 million acres.
On August 5, in the largest move of lions across an international boundary in history, Twenty Four Lions will be reintroduced to a 2.5 million-acre habitat in the Zambeze Delta of Mozambique. The environment, once decimated by civil war and poaching, has benefited from a 24-year effort led by Zambeze Delta Safaris and dedicated to sound conservation practices. However, in spite of these efforts, the lion population has struggled to recover. Lions have become extinct in 26 African countries. Twenty Four Lions is determined to make sure that Mozambique doesn’t join that list.

The Cabela Family Foundation, in partnership with the Ivan Carter Wildlife Conservation Alliance and Zambeze Delta Safaris, is proud to support this initiative.

The whole team preparing for the first load. Photographers, vets, pilots, and assistants all played important roles in getting the lions prepared for the journey to a whole new ecosystem.

Join our efforts to reestablish this important ecosystem and reverse the devastating effects that poaching and civil war have had in the area. Your donation will help fund:

● Helicopter aerial patrols, fast reaction motorcycle patrols and foot patrols to protect the Zambeze Delta wildlife

● Ranger equipment, including tents, backpacks, uniforms and water bottles

In a perfect world, we would like to double our current efforts to protect this environment. But we can’t do it alone.

Join us in supporting Twenty Four Lions and the reestablishment of the ecosystem in the Zambeze Delta of Mozambique.

I sure hope it works!

I sure hope it works!

Yeah, what are they going to eat? A hundred and fifty miles on the road from Tete to Cahora Bassa and I didn't see ONE wild animal, not even a bird. I hope the Delta has more wildlife or those lions will either starve to death or move on to livestock and people for food.

Supposed to be 20,000 buffalo now in Coutada 11 where this is taking place. I know 3 hunters who have gone with Mark Haldane and I'm hoping to join the crowd at some point, gets terrific reviews.

This is the kind of positive news about Hunters doing real African wildlife conservation that will never see the light of day in the Anti-Hunting Alt.-Left media.

It is up to every member of this community to spread this story far and wide…whats that phrase I’m reading all the time?…Oh yea Viral
We must share this with everyone we have contact with e-mail & social media, everywhere.

Now get out there and put the word in the streets!

Where did the 24 lions come from?

The lions were captured in the Tembe Elephant Park and the Makalili Game Reserve in South Africa and transported to the hunting area “Coutada 11” in the Zambezi Delta where they are currently under quarantine.

During this period, the lions have formed social groups and they will be released in these prides to increase their chances of reintegrating into the natural environment.

If all goes to plan, over the next thirty years the lion population in the area will increase from 24 to 500. Researchers calculate this could increase the world’s lion population by ten per cent over the next two decades.

Lions play a crucial role of apex predator in balancing the ecosystem. Dan Cabela of the Cabela Family Foundation told AIM “it has been a privilege to participate in this effort with our outstanding partners in Mozambique and elsewhere. We look forward to realising the full potential of the ecosystem becoming balanced again”.

The project has is being undertaken with the full support of Mozambique’s National Administration of Conservation Areas (ANAC).

Great story, show it to the Green Parties that do sfa but instead complain about us. (hunters)

Peta will of course come up with some sort of bullshit answer!

Caption for the first photo: Work fast folks, the cats are starting to wake up!

I can only imagine what a monumental task it was to get to this point of actually relocating the lions...especially considering it is an international move.

Caption for the last last photo…”Attention Ladies this is your Captain speaking…there will not be a meal or snacks served during this flight.”

I'll be contributing to this. I want to see the full eco-system rebuilt. Great work.

Are you release more lions as time goes on to prevent genetic defects?

Soft kitty, warm kitty
Little ball of fur
Happy kitty, sleepy kitty
Purr, purr, purr
Very nice Sheldon.

That last picture with all the hands and the paw should be posted everywhere. Is ok to use other places we share this story?

Fantastic endeavors, good people doing great things for lions.
The whole hunting community supports these efforts I’m sure.
Would love to see this go viral!

Lions have an incredible “homing instinct” and so cannot simply be released until they have to be kept in a “boma”. Here you have an aerial view of the bomas in Mozambique. Each one is about a hactare so they have plenty of room but also plenty of cover in the clusters of trees - they spent six weeks in these bomas settling into the area

what a wonderful initiative ! thanks for sharing
