As we’ve been talking about herd dynamics, and how bulls bash each other to conquer the ladies, my six-year-old son asked me, “Why do boys even like girls?”

“Well,” I answered, “You’ll probably find-out one day when you’re older.”

“I don’t like girls, I just like triceratops. I want to find a triceratops skull.”

“Well, we’ll give it a try.”

Today we had a great little walk and spied a small herd, and snuck-in close to about forty metres to check for a big bull. There was no big bull - the one that bosses these ladies around is a whopper but was elsewhere. Stalking through crunchy leaves with a little lad is a great challenge and heaps of fun! He held my .500 Jeffery while I snapped a few pictures. Then the wind changed so I chambered a round while they figured us out and safely departed.

The muzzle of the .500 Jeffery has a mean look to it...:Cigar:

What is amazing is that little guy will grow into that rifle someday!

Nicely done, thank you for sharing this!

All sorts of adventures ahead.

Great job Ben! Your boy will treasure that picture when he is older.
I will be there in 15 days and can’t wait!

Cheers,
Cody

Your son will have such great memories being with dad looking for buffalo! Wonderful sharing with kids and grandkids!

Even though he is having fun now later in life he will look at the memories much more fondly. Yes they can be a challenge when stalking but it is worth every min of it. That is what I did with my daughter when she was little and she loved it. We were hunting deer here in the USA. She has become quite a hunter. She has hunted in the USA and Africa

Hunting with dad is something your son will never forget. I started hunting with my dad when I was 14, on Wednesday my farther and I head to Pawprint Safaris in SA for our second safari, this will be the 40th consecutive year I've hunted with my father, each and every hunt was special and filled with great memories.

My son started hunt started hunting with me three years ago when he was 5, whenever I hunt with him I stop caring about antler size, the animals age or even if I take one, all that matters is that I'm spending time with my son hunting.

Keep up the good work,

Great stuff, thanks for sharing.

Nice to read stories like these (y)

BenKK, hopefully you and your son will spend many years hunting together. Each year there will be "stories" from previous hunts. It just keeps on getting better and better. Enjoy and savor every moment, some folks are not so lucky.

Thank you, men. The encouragement here means a lot to me. Life has given me some massive hardships in my journey as a Dad, but me and my boy are in the business of meeting these challenges and making every moment special.

G’day again, guys! Well, aren’t those little Barnes TSXs something else! It pains me to say that, being rather keen on Australia’s Own - Woodleigh. Yesterday I brewed a handful of 180 grain TSXs (for the Mauser .300H&H) that I’ve had sitting in the cupboard for years. Today we went to the range and made a few minor adjustments to the scope, and then proceeded to search for dog food. We searched high-and-low, then spooked a grand, slightly piebald, walleyed bull from his bed. A side-on shot at about sixty metres had him down for the count in a matter of seconds while his bewildered colleague looked-on. After the other bull departed my boy and I checked carefully and began the process. He found a broken spearhead and we took a photo to trick Grandpa into thinking we used it on the cut-up. The TSX, now cleaned, weighs 179 grains.

Wicked! Well done taking your son out. My daughters love hunting, one shot her first deer last year. Outback buff hunting is on my bucket list. My Uncle has just moved to Katherine so I might have to organise a visit.

Spending time with the kids outdoors is awesome. I can't wait till I arrive down there next year for buff. If all goes well I'd like to take my kids money allowing.

Sounds like you have a great inquisitive lad. I do also. Unfortunately for me (the way I see it), he's not interested in hunting, just HOCKEY and basketball.
Hope they both want to "hang and chill" with us when we can't do to much anymore except talk about the good times we've had together. I'm sure we would agree that there are no better times than ones spent with our kids doing something we both enjoy.

Kudos on ya
