Meat processing:
Willie Barnard always do the biltong for us..he is a master in making delicious biltong. He is also kind enough to cut out the soft ,small pieces of tender meat from the carcass , enabling me to make droee wors..Willie also provide me with sheep tails fat , one reason why our droee wors is such a success...

Great report so far Gert! I look forward to your report each year and once again, you did not disappoint.

Thank you for sharing and thank you for keeping the traditions alive.

Members, I received this rifle from a person who do not have a use for . This is now my newest addition to my black powder hunt arsenal for this 1884 era type hunts..it is also called the Mauser 43.
Although it is primary known as the 11,15 x 60R Mauser...reverting from a military version previously used in Germany...will upload more photos when I get my hands on it next week.

Gert, maybe it is just me but I don't see a hammer. Is this rifle an inline Black Powder Rifle?

Shootist43, this is a Mauser 1871 , 11.15 x 60 commercial rifle, it has a straight bolt handle, it was the last black powder rifle build by Mauser company ...before they converted to the Mauser bolt actions for smokeless powder...This Mauser is also known as the Mauser 43. There are excellent links on You tube about this type of Mauser, just search Mauser 43 on you tube..(y)(y)(y)

Are you sure...?

It looks like a Mauser M88...

By the way, the last black powder rifle build by the Mauser company was the M71/84, a tube magazin repeating rifle.

This is a Mauser M71.....converted to a sporting rifle.

HWL, thank you kindly for this information. As soon as I have the rifle in my hands I will take photos and upload to this page. I really would like if you will be able to assist me to make sure which rifle this is I got from a member on another forum. I do know the 1871/84 witht he single shot and repeating shooting due to the pipe /tube magazine in the stock front part...Flatwater Bill is currently working on it to bring two to South Africa next year for the Black Powder hunt...if not he requested I permanently export the two rifles to South Africa from America..this process is still an ongoing process for the past year...(y) The rifle in the photo is a beautiful conversion....do you hunt with it frequently and are there brass available for these classic rifles in Germany?

HWL I just got the photos , please look at it and give me your opinion???? I see the bullet diameter is a 10.75mm like the 404 Jeffery I have..

The Mauser 88 has a Carcano type of magazine ..so this can then not be the Mauser 88 ??

In the past, I hunted with it, but rare.... this spring, the rifle got a new stock, and now I want to use it more frequently.

What I need is a "1882 Era Black Powder Hunt" like yours...

Ammunition and cases are a problem.

I am the proud owner of 20 Bell cases, I reload, and there is an unbrocken box of 20 Dominion factory rounds, I will keep.

This is then an invitation to you from me to join us for the 1885 Era Black powder hunt next year 2019 . Please , you are welcome..we have black powder for you to use...I will as Hansie Minnaar to draw more brass for your rifle, cast bullets for your rifle. Please except my invention for next year HWL???

Can you confirm the caliber/ make of this rifle..it is a Mauser, if you look at the photos???

For sure, this is not a M71 and not a M71/84.

I will figure out what it is...

The cartidge is most likely a 10,75x57, an extremely rare bird!!!

Please measure th case length, it should be close to 57 mm or a little bit shorter.

HWL

I am awaiting answer from the owner who will measure the length of the round..(y)(y)(y)(y)
