Any members here ever hunt water buffalo in Argentina? If so, what is the experience like? is it a hunt very similar to cape buffalo hunting, and if so any recommendations on an outfit with fair chase hunting. Would also like to include blackbuck and pig. Thanks

Following. I’m pretty interested in this as well, as it seems like a much more budget-conscious option than cape buffalo.

One outfit I looked at offered buff/blackbuck and pig 8 days $5800. Hard to top that.

@ROCKET would be a guy to talk to!

I'm looking into a buff hunt down there in the near future myself! I've been in contact with a few folks I have met at DSC the last two years.

Let me know what you come up with. Might be something we could do together.

Yeah man will do. The guy I'm speaking with mentioned a group hunt, so I would be game for that with a couple of AH'ers!

This is a hunt I'm very interested in doing. If you get any specifics please post them.

As you look into a hunt in Argentina be sure and do your homework. I have read of difficulties with firearms import. They have been making you apply through a consulate as I recall. Sometimes hard to get paperwork squared away. So caution there. The second problem has been getting trophies back. I have read of several that have had lots of problems and much higher shipping costs than expected.

Don't think he has fair chase buff if I not mistaken.
Hey Johnny. I went in 2009, primarily after buffalo. Almost all the buffalo there are behind some kind of fence and most are large enough ranches that it really doesn't matter much. I had a good hunt and took a good bull with my 416 Rigby after following a herd for several miles to get a good shot. It was a proper hunt, but by no means a buffalo in Zim, Moz, Zambia etc. Then again, it's a bargain compared to those places. The only issue I had was the lack of proper care of the capes on the animals taken. I'm trying not to paint the entire country with this wide brush, but they didn't seem to be as anal about proper care as the folks in Africa. To somewhat back this up, I know three others that had the same issues that I had with different outfitters.(my issues are documented here on AH). Argentina is a good hunting destination with very good pricing and getting there is half the cost of going to Africa. It's NOT Africa, but enjoy it for what it is. If you go, be sure and spend a couple of days bird hunting...it's incredible! Be sure to get involved with the caping. Timing, fleshing and salting to make sure you won't have any issues

Thank you that’s good advice.

Ya know guys I’ve been thinking about this hunt, it seems that Argentina although is a fabulous place to want to visit it seems there is a lot of issues as Wes pointed out. Another is is restricted ammo importation. I shoot a 375 Ruger so I doubt they will have the ammo I prefer to use. ( swift a frame) for this dangerous hunt. I know of several very larger cattle ranches (25,000 acre plus) in California that hunt these buffalo. Maybe it pays in a lot of ways to look into that option. Opinions?

Is getting into the People’s Republic of California with your rifle any easier than Argentina?:whistle:

Ya Charlie I hear ya. I do know you cant shoot ammo with lead in most parts of the place.

Did you hear they have a measure on their ballot this year to split the state into three?

My suggestion is that state splits off the map so it floats off into the sea taking all those liberal ass holes with it.:sneaky:

What about a buff hunt in Australia, plenty of fair chase up in Arnhem Land!
Cost wise from the states might be dearer than getting to South America, but it would be a wild hunt for sure!
Great fishing too!
