NAMIBIA: My Namibia Hunt 2017

Bill, is that work being done in Namibia? I’m headed there in 19 with @Kowas Hunting Safaris. Have plans to bring mine back to my guy here in Oklahoma, but just curious.

Yes work is being done in namibia by Ingwe taxidermy. Not to far from the airport so worth a look if you have time. I have another thread in taxidermy section to see all the stuff they are doing for me. Very happy so far.

My zebra mount that shows the difference of a mount zebra over a plains zebra. Mtn zebra have a dewlap and some mounts miss that fact.

Congrats on a great safari! I hope to get there someday. You took some great animals and made some great memories. We have all missed or had bad shots as hunters and you more than made up for it! I got the "shanks" on a trip to Moz and it cost me a sable. That hurt but the drama makes for something you never forget and then you rise above it. Thanks for sharing your trip.

The final phase of the trip finished mounts. The kudu is still being finished because there airbursh broke and waiting on some parts.

This trip was great from start to the finish mounts.

I have learned a lot from this site over the 7 years I have been around here. I think sharing all the info you learn along the way is part of being here. Shows guys they have more options then most even know. I am looking forward to seeing your eland next year. LOL crazy how animals get added by just seeing stuff on reports.

Ridgewalker look again at that picture you just cant do one warthog skull.;) Hope you find a nice one though and get your skull or mount of one.

Mine is going to have to wait another year. My hunting buddy and @Kowas Hunting Safaris have been very good to work with me after winning the Wintershoek hunt here on AH. We have pushed Namibia back to 2020. But I can’t wait to go after one of those big blue bulls.

View attachment 195283 View attachment 195280 So I have one last afternoon and we decide lets go look for a kudu. We have been seeing a few and know some good one are around. We head out see some kilspringers and oryx along the way. Then we spot some kudu cows with a young bull. We look around then sot another bull that just may do. We start the stalk after getting the wind in our favor and make it to about 500 yds and the cow get nervous. When we stop we find another bull but just can nit get a good look at him. We look back judge the second bull and guess him at 53" plus so it is game on now. The cows go back to feeding and we make the move to close the distance. We get to 275 and I get on a nice tree branch instead of the sticks.

They start to feed are way but the bull only gives me a head on shot and is still 250 yds away so no go. He keeps coming and turns broadside at 225 giving me a chance for a shot. I get steady and squeeze the trigger and we hear the sold hit. He gets that drunk walk look and falls over dead with in 10 yds of the shot.

We get over to him and I am very happy and what a way to finish my first but not my last Namibia trip. He is a old mature bull around 53 to 54" with a giant thick neck. The one younger bull will be mid 50's in a year or two and will also make a great kudu one day.

Very nice kudu!

That second Oryx is a beauty!

That oryx was 42" and they saw one this year pushing what Pieter thought was 44". I saw plenty of oryx and more then a few that were in that 38 to 40" range. Hoping to get a 40" bull oryx this year but I see a 44" cow I will go after her for sure.

Kudu was a good bull to and there is plenty of bigger ones to try for this year.

So how is that remodel coming along? Will you have wall-space for all these new additions?

Haha that is a funny one. I need to take out two windows yet. Then add the 2 feet to the wall height and then the new roof. The plan is sometime in sept to do that.

I also decided I am going to use another room in my house and make it a room of north American animals. Lucky for me I will be adding any new animals to the ones waiting there now so it will be next feb or march when I ship them home.

September!? Seriously? Do you know what season that is?? :)

Sadly no season for me here in Pa worth the time. I did not draw a new mexico elk tag so work it is this year if I have time around my regular work.

Congrats on some outstanding trophies, thanks for sharing your experience with us.

Well I am inside of two month for my returm trip and seeing my kudu mount has me ready to go. Great to see the end result of the first trip just before going back.
