The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) has canceled Dick’s Sporting Goods’ membership, thereby expelling the company from the organization.

Dick’s Sporting Goods recently hired a Washington D.C.-based government affairs firm, for “[l]obbying related to gun control.” Dick’s Sporting Goods CEO Edward W. Stack announced earlier this year the retail chain would end sales of modern sporting rifles, voluntarily raise the age to 21 to purchase firearms in their stores and called for more restrictive legislation.

Dick’s later announced they would destroy the remaining modern sporting rifle inventory. NSSF responded that business decisions should be individually made, but was nonetheless disappointed and the decision does not reflect the reality of the vast majority of law-abiding gun owners.

Haven't shopped at Dick's in years.......poor inventory and crappy customer service where my main complaints. I quit giving them my business LONG before all the firearm issues. What sportsmen need to be aware of is that Field and Stream stores are run by Dick's parent company. They no longer sell AR15 or other "military style" firearms. That, in and of itself, is a good enough reason for me to no longer patronized F&S; I will take my business elsewhere. There is nothing in those big box stores that I cannot find somewhere else.....either at another big box store or on line. I guess I really can't understand the rational behind pissing off the majority of your customer base to be "politically correct". If you want to not sell firearms, fine..........but then sell your "gun stores" to someone who does. Trying to be "politically correct" will not transfer over to your customer base; it will just send them elsewhere. Hopefully the soccer moms and little leaguers will take up the slack......but don't forget; there are hunters/shooters among that crowd of people was well.
Also, I would encourage everyone to patronize the smaller "mom and pop" stores out there whenever possible. Unfortunately, they are a dying breed; they can't manage to keep the same amount of inventory on hand that the larger chain stores can, or offer similar pricing. However, I do stop in when I need something and try to give them my dollars first, even if it is slightly more expensive. Usually customer service is MUCH better, and sometimes you can get some deals. Also, they have a family to feed, same as me...and at the end of the day that makes me feel pretty good knowing that I've help a small business to survive, at least on more day.

The smaller "mom and pop" stores in my area carry the reloading powder and primers that the big box stores won't stock and actually have a more diverse selection of ammo.
Plus they handle internet gun sales and will special order items that the big box stores refuse to handle.

I have never found anything compelling about the Dicks operations. I can not even remember the last time I walked into one. Yep they made a business decision and folks like me can make purchase decisions. As with Yeti I don’t see myself buying anything from them in the future but not solely due to recent business decisions. Frankly, I can find products just as good and at different big box operations.

The dick' s in my area have/had their gun and hunting related merchandise crowded into the far back corner of the store. Their major customer base seems to be golfers. I bought a shotgun from them many years ago. I knew I was in trouble when the clerk, while holding a Model 94, offered me a "30" gauge. I bought a 12 gauge pump instead. Haven't been back since.

Most of the larger gun stores in my area no longer handle reloading supplies of any kind.....I have a problem with paying "hazmat fees" for powder and primer (when the same powder/primers in loaded ammo are "exempt"). I have one store that's about 50 miles away......when I am in need of a large supply of powder and/or primers, I make a road trip. I informed the proprieter about this, and he asked if there was anything that I think he should be carrying that he currently doesn't stock. I enjoy the fact that he wants my opinion (for better service, hopefully), and his prices are decent. I will continue to patronize his store.(y) I also have bought a few used guns from this establishment as well, in addition to a guitar amplifier (the place is also a pawn shop). :D

I deal with Cabelas and a Mom and Pop Store here in Minnesota, For re-loading supplies I Use the Gunstop also a Mom and Pop Store,,never even been in a Dicks

Dick's never has been a gun or hunting store. Having a few guns and ammo does not make you a gun shop. They specialize in soccer, running, biking, swimming, and as someone else said, golf. Hunters and shooters have lost nothing if Dick's completely disappears tomorrow. Most of us have no need to boycott them, since we don't use them anyway!

I don't think Dicks really cares about gun owners and they pretty much cater to the urbanites and teen kids. Nothing they have is specialized and not a big selection. Saying Dicks is a hunting store is about the same as saying 7-11 is a grocery store.

I have pretty much stop shopping at them except for a few minor things if in a bind (like a head lamp). But overall I doubt even a large scale boycott by gun owners will impact their bottom line.

Gun owners can stop taking their kids there to buy soccer shoes and the like, that will have an impact on their bottom line.

I know this was posted in another thread, but certainly relevant for this thread also.

GENESEO, IL, (05/03/18) – Springfield Armory is severing ties with Dick’s Sporting Goods and its subsidiary, Field & Stream, in response to their hiring a group for anti-Second Amendment lobbying.

This latest action follows Dick’s Sporting Goods’ decision to remove and destroy all modern sporting rifles (MSR) from their inventory. In addition, they have denied Second Amendment rights to Americans under the age of 21. We at Springfield Armory believe that all law abiding American citizens of adult age are guaranteed this sacred right under our Constitution.

It is clear where Dick’s Sporting Goods and its subsidiary, Field & Stream, stand on the Second Amendment, and we want to be clear about our message in response. Their position runs counter to what we stand for as a company. At Springfield Armory, we believe in the right and principles fought for and secured by American patriots and our founding forefathers, without question. We will not accept Dick’s Sporting Goods’ continued attempts to deny Second Amendment freedoms to our fellow Americans.

I went into Dicks the other day. Had to buy some spikes for my kid's shoes, he runs track, didn't know where else to go. As I was paying I started to mention why I never go there and the clerk said he totally understood where I was coming from. I didn't even get to mention exactly why. I bought 22 lr ammo there back when things were scarce, also bought a rain coat on sale a few years ago, (tough material, digital cammo triple X large, I could wear it over me and my day pack at the same time, $20).

I've been watching their stock price, not doing so well.

Mostly I go to Sportsmans Warehouse or Cabelas.

It's not about guns, it's about not liking the sorts of people who like guns.

I follow politics closely, we've a governor's race coming up in this purple trending blue state. I'd give good odds a Dem wins. The two most likely Dem candidates have stopped mentioning guns at all. More than likely they have paid for accurate polling. I think the whole Parkland thing has had an unintended reaction. Many who previously weren't much interested in the midterms now might vote.

Just figured on stopping by, haven't read the web site in a while. Good luck whatever you guys hunt.

I guess those of us in southwest Virginia and northeast Tennessee are lucky. We have Bass Pro Shop, Cabelas, Academy Sports and plenty of Wal-Marts around to shop for hunting, fishing, and camping equipment.
There are Dick's stores here also; But as others have said these stores don't carry much thus I don't do business with them.

MKS Supply(hi point and inland) and Mossberg have now joined in on cutting off Dicks!(pun intended)
Can’t wait to see field and stream follow Gander Mountain down the road of failure, most of the gander mtn guys had about as much gun knowledge as the dicks...guys!

I have come to the conclusion that gun people are made over a long period of time. When you talk about a gun retail business today, if you see a 21 ish year old at the counter, all he will know about is ARs, Glocks and 1911s, if you are lucky. I am sure that there are exceptions to this, but they are rare IMO! For most of the people that will read this thread, that's just not good enough!

I feel dumber after talking with most people at gun counters, especially all the tacticool crowd. Just because you can grow a big fuzzy beard doesn’t make you an operator any more than a set of tits makes Bruce Jenner a woman!lol

I posted this on the thread regarding Yeti coolers, but it needs to be here as well. This is a photo I took of the front of Collector's Firearms in Houston.
