Another veterinary restriction is that prior permission from the veterinary services is required to transport warthog or parts of warthog from the place where it was obtained; and for any game meat or product of game meat or game birds to be exported from Namibia.
THE veterinary cordon fence in the northern part of the country continues to hamper the integration of economic activities for the benefit of all Namibians. However, under the guidelines announced by the minister, hunting establishments situated north of the cordon fence, also known as the red line, already start at a disadvantage as destinations for hunters who might want to bring the meat from the north.
“The Directorate of Veterinary Services does not allow game meat to be transported from north of the veterinary cordon fence,” said Shifeta's statement.
However, meat and meat products from south of the fence easily cross to the north and this has justified calls for the translocation of the fence.
