I'm excited and had to share. I just took delivery of a new Merkel double rifle. I was unable to handle it before purchase, and was a little worried about the fit, but I am extremely happy with how it turned out. It fits me perfectly, the bead is nestled in the bottom of the V when I snap it to my shoulder. Just like a well fitted bird gun, but a lot heavier! It has also been equipped with a Burris red dot sight, and has EAW 30MM swingmount. It is a plain, entry level model but is the best I could afford and I'm thrilled. I have a hundred Hornady cartridges for it, so as soon as I get the Easter family gatherings out of the way I'm going to the range to try it out. Wish me luck!

Congrats Longwalker and welcome to the Merkel club. If the pictures you posted are your rifle I would say it has nice wood sir. Let us know how it shoots!

Looks VERY nice! Congrats! Let us know how she shoots :)

Yes, the pictures are of my rifle. The stock has plain straight grain, with nice contrast, so should be functional and strong. I have a hunt booked for Sept. 2019 in the Zambezi region of Namibia, this will be my Buffalo an Elephant rifle if all works out as planned.

Ivory in your future I see!!

Congrats @Longwalker! I don't know if you've shot the caliber before or not, but it is quite pleasant. A bit less compared to the .470NE. Enjoy!!

Congratulations!

I took a few shots with it today, and it seems to shoot OK with Hornady factory loads. I certainly need a better rest than leaning against a tree to properly determine how well it shoots. I was pleasantly surprised at the relatively low recoil. Didn't seem to produce any more recoil than a .375 / 300 grain.

Maybe one day.

Wish I were there to help you break it in at the range. Have shot the 450/400 in an Italian O/U. About the same recoil as my RSM .404!

Congratz! welcome to the DR group of fun loving hunters. 450/400 is just a pleasant double to shoot. I have never owned a Merkel, but have shot several and they were regulated well and a solid rifle for the price. Have fun!!!

Yes, a very attractive rifle and effective cartridge from a long proven maker.
Enjoy and let us know how it shoots.

Congratulations, great caliber and maker, enjoy!

Congrats, it's a beautiful gun! Hopefully it brings you a lot of enjoyment in the field!

Send it to me and I’ll take it in May to PawPrints and break it in for you:D:LOL::ROFLMAO:!
Always want to help my AH friends out!

Kidding aside, I hope it shoots as well as my Merkel drilling did...12x12x243 Win. I miss having it. Another of my life mistakes selling it.

Congratulations, can I ask whom you dealt with for purchasing ? North of of our friends down south? or did you import from a US retailer?
Any insight I would be grateful, as a fellow Canuck.
Cheers
Pat

Nice gun, I like mine also. Love the 450/400, got one in a No.1 that shoots like a dream.
Congratulations on acquiring

I like it, sounds like it will fill the bill for many years to come.
