I have a new .375 Ruger African that I need to put a scope on. I also have a Zeiss Conquest 3-9x 40mm that I picked up a few years back sitting in my safe. Is that too much scope for this rifle? I’m planning on my second trip to SA and it would be for plains critters. Because, as we all know, just one trip doesn’t cut it.

Works fine on my 375 h&h

Would be great for that rifle and that purpose.

Fine for plains game. Probably too much scope for dangerous game as the field of view is reduced. A .375 with the right scope in the right hands using lighter bullets (i.e. 235 gr.) can effectively kill way out (<500 yds.)

That will do!

Ive got a zeiss 3-9x on my winchester .375H&H. Was GREAT on my last PG hunt (shots taken from 60-130 yards).

Put it on, I have a .375 Win. Alaskan, it has a 2.5-8 on it in Quick Detatch rings. :Best of both worlds. You do have iron's?

It will do perfectly. I have a few of them, on amongst others 2 FNs - a .250 Savage and 7x57 (the latter most of my clients use) and on a ZG47 8x60. I've used one on my .416 Ruger Hawkeye Alaskan for load development and whilst waiting for 30mm Alaska Arms Mounts to arrive in order to fit a 1-6x24 Swaro Z6. They have never let me down, never give parallax issues, and hold their zero with stiff recoil. I know of two doing service on 2 .375 H&Hs with no problems

Yes I do. That’s a thought.

I think you are set up sir.

Thanks for all the help!

3-9 is fine as others have said. I was at one time a big fan of the Zeiss Conquest scopes, great glass for the money. But have found them to not be durable. Have had a number of them go down on me including the same scope you mentioned sitting on my .375HH.

Just bought a used one for mine. Will go in quick detach rings. May pick up a lower power scope in same rings for dg if I ever get the chance to go.

Pablo,
No doubt that is a nice scope and great for most hunting situations. My .375Ruger has a Leupold VX6 2-12 with the red dot in the center of the crosshairs. It has served me well.
Have a great hunt!

You don’t have to have magnification on the max. Mostly you’ll have it on 3-4. I have a fixed 2.5 Leupold on my 375.
I the future I will most likely have a 3-9 x 40. So as far as too much I doubt it. Hope this helps.

I have an old Bausch & Lomb Balvar 3-9x40 on my 375. I wouldn't hesitate to use it for PG. DG another story.

Whoaaaa Phil, Lot of Zeiss fanboys on this site.:E Tap Foot: I got in BIG trouble questioning their quality in another thread. :A Argue: But what the heck do I know? I've only been shooting scoped rifles since 1963. :E Crazy:
Anyway, my pick is a Trijicon 2-10 with chevron. Good field of view and quick target acquisition. Good to whack groundhogs and other small varmints out to 400 meters.

I have the same Zeiss 3-9 on my Sako .375 H&H and I like it just fine.

I agree with all the others who have posted saying the scope/rifle combo is good. I have one addition - QD ring mounts. I like Warne mounts, but there are others that work just as well. The Ruger takes well to QD rings with little change of impact out to 200 yards. Then you can remove it if you want to hunt DG in thick brush where a close (<50 yards) and quick shot is necessary. Just make sure you practice with both the scope on from sticks AND removed from sticks and off-hand.
