Ok from what I’ve seen here there is a lot of accubond fans here so don’t get real upset. I took the advice from here loaded up some ,great accuracy but when I started shooting game with them (oryx Kudu warthog zebra springbok blue and black wildebeest) only one bullet was recovered and it was in the zebra. They were not opening up no game was lost but the guide and I was not happy with the performance. I could have shot full metal jackets and been as successful. From the photos I have seen on here that show nice mushroomed bullets but maybe I just got a bad lot.

I used Accubons on a 300 Weatheby Mag during my plains game safari in Limpopo, South Africa. Out of 7 animals that I shot, I was able to recover four bullets, and they were all perfectly mushroom, and the recovered bullets shed about 30+ grains. All the animals were one shot kills with the exception of the Wildebeest, that took two due a first not so great shot.
What caliber did you used them on, and at what speed? Minimum speed on them is 1800 fps.
I have used them on my last 2 trips to Africa. Usually VERY good results. Mine were running 3000 fps and mushroomed perfectly on all recovered. Shot a Kudu at 75 yds and he collasped on the spot DRT. Either you got a bad lot or something else drastic.....

I loaded Accubonds in 35 Whelen - 225 grains at around 2750 fps. Haven't killed much with them except a warthog at about 65 m and several whitetail deer at ranges between 30 to 80 yards. The wound channels in all were very impressive.
Sorry, no. All were pass through. One whitetail hit through shoulders and spine. Lost top of both front shoulders. One hit through neck. Fist sized wound. Warthog hit just behind shoulder exited behind opposite ribs, 1.5" hole on exit.
Just the tip to ogive mushroomed but stopped there not into the barring surface that was 80 yards through the zebra stuck out of the hide backwards on the other side.

First of all congrats on what was obviously a very successful hunt. With regard to the bullet performance, I personally am really happy with a SP that delivers a pass through. More damage than a solid, yet still the benefit of an exit wound. That is why I use the TSX so often (unless I am using a Woodleigh Hydro) - and unless the target is a cape buffalo or eland, they are almost impossible to recover. I haven't used it, but the AB has a well earned reputation as a stoutly constructed bullet . What you describe sounds and looks like what I would expect from a TSX which would be pretty much ideal performance for me (well, not the zebra). I am confident that the internal damage was significantly more than a FMJ would deliver. With regard to your warthog specifically, he looks pretty dead. What did everything between the two holes look like? That is what really matters. Were any of these long recoveries? What would you have preferred?
Imho sounds like a rifle problem do you have any target photos ? Have used them in a 7mm rem for culling 20+ down pass through on most as side on meat saver shots however exit wounds were impressive and those that ran died tired ........
Because of some clients having to move their dates I have 2 prime time slots open if anyone is interested to do a hunt
5-15 May
or 5-15 June is open!
shoot me a message for a good deal!
