Mohammad, I hope you stay around and are an active poster. It would be interesting to have you share your experiences with us. Please excuse my ignorance on the subject but are you able to hunt in Jordan? I have been very blessed to have been able to have traveled to many places to hunt and fish but have never been to your part of the world though I do find some of the limited information I have found on hunting cultures over there very fascinating. Unfortunately like I said information on ya'lls hunting culture is very limited over here.

Make sure you post pictures here after you receive it. We'd love to see both the lion and the rest of the room. :)

So as to not derail the thread it is the tiger skin on the floor.

A couple of stories:

When I was a kid I went with my father to one of his friends house. The man was a big game hunter. In his house was a head in tiger rug. Knowing he must have had a great hunting story from India or Burma I asked him where he got it. He said, "Well, I was on the board of the zoo. They had this aging tiger and I told them when it dies, call me and I will dispose of the carcass" This man had hunted around the world but didn't want a beautiful tiger wasted, so paid to have the skin tanned. He in no way led people on by saying he shot it.

Story 2.

An acquaintance was at our house for a party and was looking around my modest trophy room. He said he had a tiger skin. He had lived in India as a kid and the next door neighbor had shot a few dozen tigers and some leopards. The hunter gave him a tiger skin which he brought back and was in his old closet at his parents house where it had been for 40 years. The acquaintance said he never displayed it and he would give it to me if I wanted it. I told him I would be happy to display the skin. The next time he visited his parents he looked for the skin and his mother said she had thrown it away 20 years ago. I would have been happy to display the skin even though I hadn't shot it. It is an interesting item to add to a trophy room.

A tiger skin is a unique thing. Most of the people that have hunted them have passed away. What happens to the taxidermy when those people die. Usually it gets thrown away. What better way to re purpose a unique item than to display it instead of having it trashed.

I hope you find your lion Mohammad!

But I’m sorry I do apologize. Clearly the “hunters” here have no problem with farm raised lions being “Hunted in Pens and then sold off to the highest bidder. I saved my whole life to hunt a lion. Then when it was finally within reach. The Lion farming scandal (and Cecil) killed that dream. And BS like this thread will insure average hunters like me will never get the chance to hunt a free range lion the way it should be done like Roosevelt & Hemingway. So when Non-hunters are welcomed with here open arms looking to buy their lion.. I did come to the wrong place and for that I do apologize!

Ohh..... NOW I get it!!!

You're mad you can't IMPORT a lion and the OP can. Either that or you truly don't have a clue. You can still HUNT lions. In fact, lion HUNTING is cheaper than it was when your personal dreams were "killed." The IMPORT ban made lion HUNTING less expensive, not more (supply and demand). If you truly care about the hunt, go, especially since you have the money saved, or are close. Don't make lame excuses, go.

I also hate to break this to you - Roosevelt and Hemingway weren't "average hunters" like you. They were wealthy hunters. Average foreign hunters didn't go hunt wild lions back in the day either. There were certainly more lions, for other reasons, but give me a break that the legal importation of taxidermy has had anything to do with it.

We agree here. Apology accepted.

Fred, I have deer and elk displayed that my father and grandfather shot, does that make me a accomplice in wildlife trafficking? What about private museums and collections, many people think of them of natural art, not something to beat their chest about!

What Royal said!!

Go hunt your lion and pay for a professional video of the entire hunt instead of spending $$ on taxidermy. The pics and video will last longer than taxidermy anyway and you will have a full account of the hunt instead of just a trophy.

That's probably exactly what I will do when I hunt an elephant. I doubt I'll ever be able to afford to hunt an importable one so I will go on a tuskless and film it.

@Fred Gunner with the import ban wild lion prices are down. As others have mentioned film it and do the hunt. I did a tuskless non-export and it was awesome. Much more affordable and wouldn't change a thing...probably will do it again.

You can looks at West Africa there are some affordable hunts but they are hard, as it is all tracking and it would be as about as remote as you can get.

Check it out, make it happen, and don't worry about bringing the trophy home. Most of the hidden costs come from importing trophies and taxidermy work.

@Fred Gunner, I'm having a hard time seeing what your issue is with what's being proposed here.

Let me give you an example. I've hunted for many years, and I've accumulated lots of taxidermy, so much that my wife finally got fed up. I have no doubt if I "go" first, the taxidermy will follow me out the door in short order.

What would you have my family do with my taxidermy? Burn it with me in the cremation pyre? Can't imagine what that would do to the cost.

But seriously, I'd have thought that the existence of a ready market for taxidermy is a good thing from every hunter's perspective. It gives value - value which we or our families may need one day - to the mementoes of our hunts. That's a good thing isn't it? What's the negative?

Now if you're going to try to sell someone some old, no longer wanted taxidermy, I think it behooves you not to treat the potential buyers as if they were scum, doesn't it? You want them, you need them, they are doing you a favour, and where I come from, we thank those kind of people. Right?

Hey Fred, maybe you should also bash Bass Pro, Cabelas, and all the big box stores that display trophies that were purchased. Shame on them.

But the this is pointless since the ban on importing Lion trophies will never be lifted as long as trafficking of lion trophies to countries like Jordan is allowed to continue.

Trafficking? A legal sale is NOT trafficking.
To export these legally hunted Lions an export permit from the country of origin is required, along with a CITES permit and only then can they move legally across an international border.

If someone happens to want to use a mounted Lion to adorn their home, go for it. I am sure there is someone who is tired of having an old one hanging around. There are always those taxidermists who have clients abandoning trophies after they have completed the work and need to recoup some money.

One way or the other, once the legal trophy is someone's property they can sell it, in most jurisdictions.

This is not the place to advertise if you want to avoid scrutiny from all corners of the globe. Trust me on that front.

Don't feed the trolls, especially the closet PETA ones. Having said that, Photoshop can do wonders. Hell, I was an astronaut AND a mayor of a major city and I have the paperwork to prove it. Give me a few minutes on Google and I'll have the documentation for you.

Problem solved.

Do share the pictures of your newly decorated room and the permits required to get it home.
