I would like to add to @BRICKBURN post, Africa is Africa, but not all is the same. Doesn't take a true hunter long to sum up another hunter.. I gave my PH strict instructions if you shoot a leopard and it doesn't drop on the spot, you come call me for the follow up, Wayne being another client in camp, normally I would have told him to stay in camp, but I knew he wasn't your normal client/ph/hunter, he knew his beat and wouldn't be in the way. What a night we had!

So, how much do you trust the client who shot the Leopard and the PH team when you walk into the bush after midnight with ONLY a camera in your hand?

I'll tell you. If Kurt would have shot the Leopard the first night I would have been scared shi*less. He was very nervous that day.
The second day, after I chatted with him and he talked to Simon and Martin at length, he had settled down and I had ZERO concern about his shot or walking into the bush with these guys. (I was not present remember)
ps. Next time I will take a gun because of the Elephants.

Oh ya, being a PH is all sexy.

Having a few cooking skills helps.

Comprehending how to get yourself out of the sh%t comes in handy.

Pyromania is a definite personality trait required.

When you have to chase your meat balls around your plate because the table is not level! You have to be handy enough to fix it.

Plenty of time you just get to sit back and watch.

Surviving the Appi driving in the bush builds character.

When the sand Donga is just the perfect fit for your Bakkie (bumper to bumper) Bottom full of sand...... Self rescue. There is not auto club.

The bush will always surprise you. Branches cracking and falling on tents in the dark. Up done and repaired.

It is not all trophy pictures. PH's do a lot of grunt work to make it come off. It is certainly not all sexy.

A culture closer to its rural roots and understanding fire as part of the renewal process vs the preservationist attitudes we have here in North America.

Here we get charged with Arson for setting a grass fire.
Although burning crop stubble is still done on some areas.
They currently spent nearly $180 Million fighting wildfires in BC this summer after suppressing fires for so many years the fuel load is so heavy the fires are hell to control.

Lots of areas here that could use a good burn. Good places to hunt after a year or two. Unfortunately, we can't start our own grass fires, even with good intentions.
