LJ Hunting Safaris is owned and operated by Juan Stander and Lauren Purdon. Both have grown up on farms and have a passion for the outdoors and a love for animals and hunting. They both grew up in hunting families and even went further to study in the wildlife industry, which gives them good knowledge about the Eastern Cape bush and the game in the area.

LJ Hunting Safaris has an excess of 100 000 acres of pristine land and offers about 25 game species to hunt. We are very passionate about hunting and conservation. Hunts are mainly done by means of walk and stalk and we only make use of ethical hunting techniques. We believe in fair chase of wild animals. Having hunted for various outfitters in the past we strive to make every hunters time with us as memorable as possible and meet their needs as much as we possibly can.

Trophy hunts are tailor made to suit the hunter’s preferences and budget. Hunts are exclusive to you and you only. Each hunt is planned and conducted to give the hunter the opportunity to test his or her skills against some of our prime game animals.

The hunting terrain starts along the coast of the Eastern Cape of South Africa. Here the vegetation is thick coastal bushveld with rolling valleys and open plains. The hunting areas extends up into the northern parts of the Eastern Cape where the mountainous areas of the Karoo will test any hunters ability and skill, but does make for a very satisfying hunt at the end of the day. In a seven to ten day hunt we offer the hunter to see more of the Eastern Cape by offering them the chance to hunt a Coastal Concession as well as one of the Northern Concessions.

We strive to offer world class affordable hunting.

Stormberg Concession
The Stormberg Concession terrain is Mountainous and is situated in the Northern parts of the Eastern Cape of South Africa. This area has witnessed a number of battles in both the Boer and Frontier wars.

The altitude extends up to 7500 feet above sea level. Hunting in this area can be considered as proper ethical hunting as there will be mainly walking and stalking due to the strenuous terrain. Hunters here will be exposed to long range shooting, so a good flat shooting rifle with variable scope is advisable. Cool temperatures can be experienced in this area; therefore it is advisable to bring warm clothes. The days can be temperate, with cold mornings and evenings.

The Stormberg Concession is 8 000 acres of Mountain Terrain and open plains, offering spectacular views. This concession is situated approximately two and a half hours from East London. This Concession is home to large herds of Mountain Reedbuck, Springbuck and some magnificent Blesbuck. This is also home to the very elusive Grey Rhebuck or Vaal Rhebuck, which always makes for a very exciting and challenging hunt. The Grey Rhebuck has the reputation of being one of the most difficult small antelope to hunt in South Africa, lots of walking and stalking will be needed to get this elusive animal.

Accommodation is a traditional farm house style lodge that has an open plan kitchen. There are three double bed rooms with two en-suite bathrooms as well as two bedrooms perfect for youngsters/kids.

The Stormberg Concession will make a great 7 to 10 day safari combined with one of the coastal properties. By doing this it adds to your African experience as you are able to see different landscapes and habitats of a variety of animal species.

Komga Concession

This concession is 30 000 acres of Coastal Thicket and open plains. The vegetation varies from thick bushveld and indigenous forest to savannah. It’s partly mountainous, with gorges waterfalls and hanging cliffs, offering some of the most spectacular views in the area. This is home to most of South Africa’s browsing species of antelope namely Nyala, Bushbuck and Kudu. Other species offered are Zebra, Bushpig and Warthog. Hunting is typically done by sitting and glassing across valleys and then getting oneself in a position to make a clean shot.

Temperatures are somewhat warmer in this lowlying, thickly wooded area than in the high altitude of the Stormberg Concession. The evenings can be cool and the days warm to hot. The Lodge offers accommodation in the form of five en-suite thatched units. Each unit is also equipped with a wooden deck which overlooks a valley and gorge. This Concession is situated close to East London which is large city with an airport.

There are a lot of activities around East London that is on offer to do.

Coastal Concession

The Coastal Concession is 10 000 acres and offers a large diversity of animals to hunt. This Concession is home to Kudu, Bushbuck, Impala, Mountain Reedbuck, Waterbuck, Steenbuck, Common Duiker, Zebra and Warthog. Bushbuck are a very challenging animal to hunt. These feisty but small antelope are one of the top favourite animals chosen to hunt after the large Grey Ghost known as the Kudu.

The Lodge sleeps a total of 16 people (8 rooms with twin beds and en-suite bathrooms in each). There is an outside Lapa area and swimming pool. Here you will have your own chef who will cook up delicious venison meat meals for you.

The terrain is rolling hills with deep valleys of East Cape Valley Bushveld. Home to the Porkbush (Spekboom) which is a large succulent plant that most browsing antelope love to eat.

Karoo Concession
Karoo Concession consist of 3 ranches. The ranch that we will hunt on depends on your animal wishlist. Each ranch varies from 12 000 acres to 30 000 acres and in total offers over 18 species to hunt.

This concession is home to the different colour variant Springbuck therefore this is a great place to get your Springbuck Grand Slam, namely the Black, White, Common and Copper Springbuck. Other species on offer are Eland, Waterbuck, Wildebeest, Lechwe, Gemsbuck, Giraffe, Ostrich and Red Hartebeest.

The terrain is large open plains with high rocky mountains and spectacular views. The lodges on each ranch varies from sleeping 6 - 16 people, as well as vary in luxuriousness. One is fairly basic and the other one is very luxurious.

Photos of lodges and the landscape can be emailed to you on request.

These animals are really great. I must add that there is a very large variety of great trophy animals.
My favorite animal is the kudu (always). Such a magnificent looking animal.
Congratulations on such fine hunting territories.
