I've done one safari for plains game in Namibia, and I'm now looking at Tanz, Zim or Moz for my next safari, this time for Cape buffalo. I'm getting conflicting views on the fence situation in the Selous, the Save and Niassa, respectively. I'm pretty sure there aren't any internal fences in the Selous or Save, but there may be a perimeter fence around some or all of these two reserves. Correct? I don't believe there is any fencing around the Niassa. Correct? Thank you in advance.

I can't answer your question, but there are at least two gents here on AH that can. I would look up safari-lawyer who just got back from the Save. And I would also look up Mark H. Young. Mark is a booking agent for Adam Clements Safari Trackers and books in the Selous and the Save, not sure if he also books in the Niassa. But whatever the case, he would know.

You can find safari-lawyer's report from the Save here: http://www.africahunting.com/zimbab...c-hippo-zambezi-hunters-ph-thierry-labat.html

And this link is to Mark's member profile and you can PM him from there: http://www.africahunting.com/members/mark-h-young.html

No fencing at all in the Selous. The Save in Zim is fenced, but at 500,000 acres with a marginal perimeter fence, it hardly can be called "high-fenced" in the general sense.
Niassa is not fenced either.

Hi Ontario
I have lived and worked in Tanzania for the past 7years and hunted extensively around the country I can assure you that no fences exist if you Ned the details of an outfitter in Tanzania let me know and I get put you in touch with whom I consider the best in the business.

No fences in the Selous perimeter of otherwise. If memory is correct the Selous is over 10 Million acres and has buffer zones. No people live on the reserve. My first safari in Africa was in the Selous at LU5 with Adam Clements safaris.

There was once a complete perimeter fence around the Save. From what I understand a small part of the fence is down, but for all practical purposes there is a fence around the conservancy. There are no interior fences. The Save is 845,000 acres in size and has multiple operators. There is some human habitation. My third safari was on Mokore in the Save with the Duckworths. It was booked through Mark Young with ACST.

I have never hunted Niassa.

There are other good operators in Zimbabwe such as Martin Pieters who post on here. His area, the Omay, is huge with no fences also.

Certainly no fences in Niassa Reserve, in fact there are practically no fences in the hole north of the country.
A Buff I killed a couple weeks ago in Niassa with Kambako African Safaris - Mozambique, Africa ;

Selous and Masailand are unfenced. Niassa, corra bassa and the coutadas in moz are unfenced. In zim matetsi and the Zambezi valley are unfenced. Almost all of Botswana is unfenced. i feel like most of the areas in caprivi are unfenced but have never been.

The original Save Conservancy perimiter fence is all but gone. There are remnants in a few sections, but most of the fence has been removed (stolen). It certainly is not a game proof fence at this point. I've seen this on the East, West, and Southern boundaries. I have no personal knowledge of the situation on the North side.

As mentioned, the Selous and Niassa Reserves are void of any fence whatsoever.

Thank you all.

Hi PaulB,
I have a Ballard Arms Model 1885 chambered for .333 Jeffery Flanged. Do you have any idea where I can get ammo for this?

I am new to this forum so I am sorry if I am doing something wrong!
Thank You!
