Well, I've been addicted to this site for about a month now. Jerome somehow brainwashed me into becoming a supporter (or maybe that was the scotch). And I've been leaving smartass comments all over the forums. After a reply to a post about dip/pack/transport costs from @akeate inquiring about where I was heading, I figured I would post a proper intro.
I am based in West Texas (for now), and have been hunting and fishing mostly in Oklahoma and Texas. No overseas trips yet - but that will change next spring. I am booked for late March of 2018 with Ubathi Safaris, in the Limpopo province of South Africa. It's a little early in the year I know, but due to my significant other being enrolled in an online degree program, it was March or September. And I couldn't wait that long! My targeted species will be Impala, Blue Wildebeest, Warthog, Zebra (part of the package I won at an Friends of the NRA silent auction) plus Kudu, Waterbuck, Bushbuck, Caracal and Gemsbuck. The trip is 10 days, but we may add a day or two depending on flights, etc.
I will be taking rifles for my first trip. A Remington 700 in .30-06 (me) and a Savage .270 (the wife). I also bought a Winchester M70 in 416 Rem Mag from @cbvanb which I might take with me, just in case . I plan on taking some HSM Trophy Gold w/ 168 gr Berger VLDs and some Remington w/ 180gr Swift A-Frames (that I managed to find a couple boxes of at auction). The wife will have some Remington w/ 140 gr Swift A-Frames.
I am looking to book flights soon, also starting to check out taxidermists here in the states. I will for sure be getting trip insurance - my grandmother had a bad experience on a trip with my brother to Nicaragua and it paid for itself many times over (~$35K in hospital bills, helicopter ride, etc).
