Given a recent thread started by Mokore Safaris in Zimbabwe and the considerable number of responses, I am curious what companies/outfitters offer "management" Cape Buffalo hunts.

To clarify, I admire those people who can point to a truly trophy Buffalo on their wall. Yes, I'm impressed by it's 40"-46" spread. However, I am more impressed by the fact that they spent the money and actually hunted Cape Buffalo then the size of the trophy. Having said that, I did not, nor will I, go to Africa with the requirement of "making the book". I understand the attraction to hunting dangerous game. I intimately know the thrill and adrenaline of danger, having spent most of my adult life in professions where violence is an ever present reality.

Harloo offers a Cape Buffalo bull 37" and under for $7,500 (relatively short hunt). Several other companies offer deals under $10,000 occasionally. My Cape Buffalo dreams are not necessarily a bull with a wide spread. I am fascinated by Buffalo with a single broken horn. Old, battle-scarred daggaboys past breeding age (and a little bitter about it).

I'm not cheap. I am fortunate (or unfortunate considering how this situation came to be) to afford most of what I want. I just don't see a point of paying for a hunt where the outfitter is focused on a "trophy" bull when my dreams are so much simpler.

I see so much character in old bulls, particularly with the aforementioned broken horn. If anybody offers this kind of hunt, please contact me. Given previous comments, there are more than a few people interested. Also, I understand "scrum cap" bulls are popular with European hunters.

Sir,
Please send me a PM regarding this. I might have what you are looking for.

Take Care,

Vanguard I like your thinking on this.

Can offer you a classic free range hunt for a proper dagga boy in the Omay, zambezi valley for $ 9750 ( 7 days all in ).

Hi @Vanguard2279 we can have a look around for a beaten up old bull for you, when do you plan on hunting the Buffalo? Please send me a mail with details of your hunt.

Dear Sir

Hope all is well. We have management buffalo available in Free Roaming areas, please send me a email magdel@gametrackersafrica.com

Thank you.
Yours truly
Magdel Oosthuizen

Beware of management bull bull hunts. I know of a guy who booked a management bull 33 inches and under after 4 days and not finding a bull that fits he was under pressure from his PH to up grade which he did for a bull 36 after two more days the PH could still not be certain any of the bulls he saw were in that size and again he was pressured to upgrade, he said no way and went hunting PG with a different outfitter.

I've posted these pics before. While neither of these are "trophies", they are deserving of the title nonetheless. I still want to find a taxidermist who can make replica Oxpeckers. My mount will definitely have one.

I think both those two bulls are superb trophies in my eyes. I see no reason to look further than Mokore Safaris. They have some of those bulls left, as well as full on trophies. The pic in my avatar was a trophy bull from the Mokore Ranch last year. I couldn't have been more pleased with my trip to the Save last fall. They also have Sengwa Research in Zim and Coutada 9 in Mozambique. I understand they are doing some buff hunting in Coutada 14 which is nearby the main camp. Not a swamp hunt but more of a palm forest type deal? Any of the 3 Duckworths would be great for your hunt, they all have great tracker's and will walk your butt off to get you the bull you want.

I like this idea these no reason why a broken off beaten up set of horns shouldn't be classed as a great trophy by the hunter who takes them
On a side note a mate of mine from here in the uk is doing 3 buffalo cows on his next buff hunt instead of the one big male it's costing him the same and he gets more hunting done over the seven days he's out in SA

I really dig those banged up scrum cap old dagga boys. War Daddies for sure!

Guys,
Thank you all for posting and sharing opinions. Especially, I wish to thank the various outfitters who reached out to me. I know the difficulty in trying to contract for a hunt two years in to the future. I will make a decision in late 2017 or early 2018. I kind of "over-hunted" this year. In April, I'm going to the Eastern Cape with African Cape Safaris for Plains Game and in September, I'm going to Newfoundland for Moose with A1 Hunts Twin Lakes. Yes, there will be hunting reports for both.
Thank you all again for your assistance.
