Have a look at the colour of the Hyenas coat and the colour of the grass behind Moosa.
You tell me how he saw that Hyena in the grass. I never saw it until it stepped onto the trail and hesitated.

Not sure if it was the first or second Spotted Hyena ever taken on the reserve.

A special trophy.

Wow these things are gnarly looking! Would love to take one if the chance presented itself one day! I saw a pic (I think from @BRICKBURN ) of a full rug with open mouth on one of these things and it looked awesome!

Reedy there are plenty in the areas they are hunted, but a special permit it necessary that needs to be applied for in advance of the hunt.

They are great trophies and a great hunt

So the spotted hyena fit CITES, TOPS, or another category?
 
I guess I should re phrase. Which permit category? I'm familiar with the idea of CITES and TOPS, but I don't really know who fits which. I recall my black gnu was TOPS.
