Happy New Year to all. I'm hoping to benefit from your collective experience. I will be going on my second hunt in Africa this summer (this time with my son), and I am already thinking about the next trip that he and I can take. I am really looking at a West Texas Aoudad hunt, as I seem to have been bitten by a sheep bug. I would be grateful for recommendations for outfitters for that hunt.

Thanks in advance for all of your help.

All the best for the new year.

I got a great Aoudad down in Del Rio with Kristin Belt, 33.5. Sycramore ranch.

I may be mistaken but I think @gizmo has these on his ranch in west Texas . Check with him here on AH!

The number one name for a free range audad you will see over and over is Mike Mckinney (sp?). www.westtexashunt.com He will be who i go with for audad after this years hunt in the UK.

Better known as Mulie_Mike on another forum ... has an outstanding reputation on free-range audad in the mountains of West Texas. You will be able to find larger animals and easier hunts .... but will be hard pressed to find a better hunt. If I wasn't saving for Africa he would be a no-brainer.

PS He offers fully guided, self-guided, and everything in between.

Thanks for the reference Charlie. Auodad is one of the two Texas sheep I don't have. The second being desert bighorn. I have just about every other type of exotic sheep and goat you can find in Texas and Auodad are all over my area with their main range being only about 2 miles north of my place but we rarely see them. Only every once in a great while does one wander onto me. I've done everything I can think of to try and lure them on to me but alas. They just won't stick around on me for long.

Since you'll be in Africa, why not one one there? We have them in the Eastern Cape. Its a great hunt. Very scenic.

A good friend of mine in Houston hunted with Wildlife Systems (https://www.wildlifesystems.com/). My friend and his two sons all took audad and had a great hunt.

Mike Mckinney is the man when it comes to hunting free range Aoudad sheep guy around. Mike and his quides are straight forward honest guys. He is my go to outfitter for hunts here in the Texas. Been with mike on four hunts and have never once walked away disappointed.

Greg Simons' Wildlife Systems has done lots and lots of great Aoudad hunts in West Texas. He supports DSC and SCI and will have a booth at Dallas. He is at the top of my list! I did my first Safari with him in 1997 with Frontier Safaris.
Regards,
Philip

As usual, this forum has come through with great information and help. Thanks to all who have responded. This will get me started on booking my Texas hunt.

One of the absolute best is Bubba Glosson of Southwest trophy hunts. Huge free range sheep. Hunted with him many times.

Those free range auodad sheep hunts in West Texas is best sheep hunting bargain in North America. I got one in March of 2013 with Kiowa Creek Outfitters. Glad I did the hunt as the price is moving up.

WOW, the prices. I should have gone 8 years ago, when a friend was wanting them off his property and invited his friends to blast away for free.

No doubt

@Patton63 You have two options in Texas, both are good hunts. We have free range hunts that are as close as you can get to a real sheep hunt in the far western part of the state. Many of the Hill country ranches also have free range sheep but not quite the same experience and grand vistas like the area toward alpine, TX. The high fence ranches have good populations and provide a solid hunt, but its obviously fenced. The hunt tends to be easier and chances for a big one are much better on a ranch hunt. Let me kow if you need some help, I have outfitters that do both types of hunts. Happy New year.

Here's a picture of mine shot with Southwest Trophy hunts. When shot he went top 25 in the SCI book.
