Wanted Rigby 416

bit of a sweeping statement to say that new Rigbys dont feed properly...... you and rookhawk need to shack up together think you would get on well.....
I stand by the statement that I wrote concerning the feeding of "MY Rigby", serial #104XX.I have no idea nor do I care who rookhawk is, as I said in a earlier posting I am not into internet trivia. I am simply looking to purchase one particular rifle for my wife. I will be taking the rest of December hunting unsold quota (1 elephant,1 buffalo) when I have time I will post the pictures that you requested, including what causes the feeding problems on "My Rigby".

just read marcs email if you can be bothered...............he is trying to help, but you appear to just want to moan about the rifle problem when he is offering a solution...........

Hi mike,

Thanks for coming around the other day. Pity we couldn't sit and chat for longer. Should have a lot more time once you are back from jersey.

Cheers!!

for sure and it will be warmer!! how did the hunt go?

I agree with spike.t's suggestion. There can be an issue resulting from ANY manufacturing process. I have had issues with new rifles from American Manufacturers. After sending them to designated repair centers that were not able to correct the problem the manufacturers paid the shipping both ways but more importantly fixed the problem. While I agree with Tokoloshe that there "just shouldn't" be anything wrong with a Rigby it's time to get practical. Let them fix the problem. In doing so they might even improve their manufacturing process and or quality control checks to preclude this from ever happening again. Think of it this way, you could be doing all future Rigby purchasers a favor.

It was brilliant...plenty rains but nothing the landy couldn't handle..shot a very nice dugga boy on the foot of the chindeni hills in lower lupande.

My brother managed to shoot some good trophies with his Heym 500 as well.

Apologies for the quality of the last picture but it was right at the top of a mountain and just before dusk. Took us three hours of recovery time getting that buffalo down to the bottom where the car was.

ok you now seem to be emphasising " My Rigby" in this post , whereas in your previous one your statement was

"and I want to warn you that the new Rigbys do not feed reliably, they have almost no feeding ramp machined into the receiver"

that is why i said a sweeping statement.......so what is it...are you now saying its just "My Rigby" that could have a problem which could be sorted, or what you originally said?...as regardless of whether you dont like "internet trivia" whatever that is..you are on the internet spouting out information that is read by a lot of people......and some take it as gospel because it is on "the internet"......as Marc said in his email get in touch with them or a dealer, and get it shipped to them and they will sort it. you can "stand by your statement" as much as you want , but that wont get it sorted and stop you having something to bitch about......

I just read your reply I contacted either Mark or Patricia at Rigby a year or so concerning this problem. The Reply was send it back. Living in Zimbabwe has its promblems. Do to the UKs arms imbargo we cannot receive a firearm directly from the UK. Here is what has to take place. First apply for a import permit from south africa, apply for a temporary export permit and temporary license good for 6 months. Once the rifle arrives in south africa I have no idea how the import export system works between RSA & the Uk once the firearm arrives back RSA a export pemit to Zimbabwe must be issued. Then if the original zim temp permit has not expired I can apply for anew license if it has expired then the process is a little more expensive and involved not to mention that the firearm must be turned in to the police armory until the new license is issued. I have no issue with Rigby, I am not moaning as someone with to much time on his hands stated, I am stating a fact. Again I say before buying one see that it will reliably feed the ammo that you plan on using. If I want a dependable firearm I have my double & my other Rigby.

Merry Christmas

WOW!! I had no idea how hard it is to ship your gun back to Rigby. Is it possible for Rigby to ship a gunsmith and the necessary parts & tools to you?

Mike I would be more than willing to bring my double to Zambia to satisfy your craving...;)

Suppose it would be easier to ship someone over to Zim.

Tokoloshe I have a couple of contacts in the gun trade in SA if I can help?

o_O....if it was possible to get it into zim, and i know about the embargo it has been in place for many years... then the return however complicated must be similar......

Hi All

Trying my luck...

Any one have a Rigby Single Square bridge in 416 they want to sell?

Perferably in RSA.

Cheers
Hello,

I have a Rigby 416 for sale, but double bridged.
Perfect condition.

Best regards,
Jef

I just happened to notice this post that started a long time ago. I sold the Rigby to someone who I made aware of the feeding problem. He does not hunt professionally and can live (I hope) with it. I have continued on with my pre war .416 Rigby still does what it is supposed to do even after more than a 100 years. Rifles are supposed to be in the bush hunting not on the gunsmiths repair bench!

I suppose I would sell that single square bridge for R600,000.00.00 no offers.
Happy New Years

I would be interested in it if you pass. Please send me the info on the gun shop if you do not buy it. I have the needed ammo and brass.
Thanks,
Ross
