I find it useful to include a knife in my Every Day Carry (EDC) items whether I'm at work or off and around town, and especially when I'm in the field.

During my trip to RSA last year, I did carry a knife to the field and used it a few times, but as expected, the staff performed all the skinning activities. Of course, when I am in the field or around camp during an elk or deer hunt, I use a knife quite often.

My question, do you carry a knife and if so, when, where and which one?

Here's what I carry when not at work, but not in the field...

I usually always have a couple of knifes with me at all times. I pack a Leatherman Wave which has two knife blades, and a Buck Pony pocket knife. Then when I head out hunting I usually have at least one other one. But then in my day pack I always have a couple. Anymore in my day pack are a Havalon Piranta and a Outdoor Edge Razor-Blaze.

On my trip to Africa I had the knifes in my pack but never had to use them

I always carry a knife on my ammo belt (Murray Leather!). It's a Tanzania Hunter made by Carlton Evans, with a desert ironwood handle. Lovely knife. I've used it to help with gutting and for a number of other tasks.

Even if you aren't going to help out with the gutting or skinning - which isn't usually expected - it's generally appreciated that you'd be ready to help out if it were necessary. Plus, it more enjoyable to be involved in the entire "value chain" from hunting to table, and without a decent knife, you ether can't or you need to borrow.

I do carry a pocket knife every day in my pocket. When I hunt, I also carry a knife. The brand I have used my entire life, is the same brand as my family for generations, Case. The reason for this is I am a descendant of Case Cutlery. My Great, Great Uncles and Grandfather started the company and operated it for many years until sold long before I was even thought of. Since my Mother's former last name is Case, I figured it almost a sin to carry other brands, at least as my primary. There are a ton of other exceptional brands out there, but for me I stick with the family company, even if we don't own any of it anymore!

i carry a diamond blade patriot at all times on my belt with my carry gun.in the field i also have a diamond blade sheath knife.

I always carry a BUCK folding knife... not sure which one and I am not at home now to take a look see.

At any given time I generally have two or three with me. Generally the folding variety. Of course this doesn't count my skinning knives when hunting. For that my favorite is the Havalon with the replaceable scalpel blade. Works like a champ.

Always carry a Kershaw folder in my pocket, all day everyday. Has a pocket clip and opens/closes easily with one hand. Half serrated blade for cutting rope. It's my everyday utility tool. I have gone through a couple in the last 15 years and TSA has acquired a couple from me.
When hunting I also carry a Havalon Pirahna and an Outdoor Edge Swingblade. The Pirahna does just about everything except I like the gut hook on the swing blade and the heavy swing blade for breaking leg joints. I really like the orange handles on the Pirahna and outdoor. I haven't lost one since I got them.

I made my own EDC liner lock folding knife which is ALWAYS in my pocket and in the field I carry one of my own made fixed knives depending on what I am expecting to need to dress

I feel necked without at least one in my pocket at all times.
I carry a case trapper, have too many sheath skinning knives to mention, Marbles are my favorite . Forrest

Have carried a pocket knife since I was 7 and have one in the truck, atv, rv and one on my belt any time I am in the woods. One of the handiest tools ever invented

I don't carry a knife on a daily basis anymore as I work in K-12 schools which don 't allow knives. But I love my Piranha and Swingblade combo matched with a Buck 110 all purpose pocket k nice.

And I remember back in the day when just about every boy had a pocket knife with them and even some of the girls had them. Not to mention playing mumbletypeg out on the playground during recess.

I won't even mention the shotguns and rifles in the truck for a quick get away for a after school hunt.

I don't feel dressed if I don't have a knife on me. Knife varies with the situation.

same here. everyday I carry an assisted opener. Deer hunting a Buck and a zipper. Africa my leatherman the guides do all the real work

Being a forester I carry a leatherman at all times(in the field). I also usually carry a benchmade folding knife because the blade is larger and stronger(everyday in town and the field).

Knifes are like toilet paper, you never know when you are going to need one and when you need one nothing else will work as well.
