Sorry to those I have PM'ed, I just found this section. Below is what I think I am looking for, from limited research. All suggestions are very appreciated.

I am looking for a family pack. lol my son(12) and I as hunters, and my wife and daughter(14) as non hunters. I am looking for 5 hunting day trip, and I am not over concerned about a lot of trophys. To be honest, I only think I would bring one back for the boy. So management hunt would be fine and if we see a trophy I could pay regular rate for it? Although the boy likes to shoot a lot, I would like him to experience a few different species. So I am not really looking for the 16 springbok packages I've seen advertised on the enternet. By the way, my son shoots a 308, I don't know what this would limit him to as far as game?

What activities do you have for the non hunters, I would think that we would like to plan 2 or 3 things for them to do besides relax.

With a busy work schedule I am trying to make time for this trip in the July time frame this year. Is this a good time to go or is it too cold for the non hunters? I am somewhat flexable and could even push to next year if need be.

Not sure if you need more information, and I am sorry if I put too much. But as this would be my first SA trip I am a bit of a novice at the planning part.

Thank all you for any and all help you can provide,

Bryan

It was very cold in the limpopo during July. There was even a bit of ice around the watering hole one morning.
Since your looking for a hunting / family vacation, i would look for outfitters near Kruger national park in RSA. Also Namibias Estosha national park is very striking. Me personaly if i ever go back to RSA i will be visiting the eastern cape. The scenery is awsome. Namibias deserts have striking vistas as well.

As far as cull hunting goes. You can also skip the high dollar animals to save money on the overall trip. You and your son can both shoot warthogs, impalas, springbok, and wildebeast for less than 3,000.

Thank you for the weather/area tips. I think what you have said about the Cull hunting is the way I need to go. Don't get me wrong, There are many trophys I would like to take, but on this first trip I will have to somewhat sell the idea to my wife. I am sure once she has been there she will fall in love and future hunts (including my trophy's) will not be an issue.

Since the most important part of this trip would be winning the wife's favor, what months would be best for the non hunters? I am not very familar with weather paterns in RSA?

For weather , I'd go in April, May, August, September. Then you will not have too much cold weather. The airfare can be cheaper if you avoid the "high season".

Cull hunts can be fun....especially if you just are hunting...and not taking animals back home...where the costs add up quickly.

I think since it's your first time you definitely should do some sightseeing....with the wife and daughter...Krueger is nice.

Best time to come for management hunts from May till end of August then most all the young have been weaned and before September the females are not overly pregnant. Normally we do management hunts for Blesbuck, impala, blue wildebeest, kudu and pigs.

I would guess your choice needs to be made based off of what kinds of things your wife and daughter like to do. I can only speak to RSA and I've only been there once so give my reply only so much consideration.

In anycase if they're a bit more outdoors oriented a hunt in the Limpopo near the Kruger National Park would be a good idea. 2 to 3 days touring around KNP and the surrounding private game reserves would be good for them. Outside of the KNP touring, there's not just a whole lot to do otherwise from what I saw. Since your kids are young, you're pretty much relegated to going in June, July and perhaps in August. It is definitely winter there at that time, so time lounging around the pool will not be in order.

If the women of the family like to have shopping or more urban type activities, then you might want to consider hunts near Cape Town or Kimberly. I know I'd like to visit Cape Town myself. Kimberly I know has hunting nearby and is where the diamond industry in RSA got its start.

Thank you all for the advice. if June-August are winter and cold what hunting months are warmer? is see a lot of pools in the pictures for many of the outfitters, what months would make those pools practicle?

March or October if you want to be sure of warm weather.

Like enysse said March October although I will add April as well.

Hi Bryan

I would say a cull hunt should not be done any later than August since most of the female species are highly pregnant come October-November.

Should you only be taking cull males well then you will be in good shape?

I would honestly prefer April/May it is a good time to take off cull animals.

Dear Bryan:

As others have told you July is one of our cold months in South Africa. With the kids I am sure you will need to arrange the trip around the school holidays. June is going to be your best option. Weather is still OK and the childern will be out of school. We can offer your family the following packge:

2 adults plus 2 children
5 days hunting
10 animals

$3500.00

Includes:
1 x blue wildebeast cow
1 x kudu cow
8 in combination female blesbuck, springbuck, warthog and impala.

The above includes everything except for flights tips and taxidermy (If any) You will have several nice trophys. The wildebeast makes for a great mount and the female blesbuck have good horns. I can arrange everything including the flights.
