I noticed that you posted the article written by the Minister of Dept Environmental Affairs about 'canned lion' hunting on the Africa-Hunting website.

In her article she does not mention anything about the ethics or the morality of trophy hunting. The Bible regards trophy hunting as a sin. This is because killing wildlife merely as a 'sport' for trophies shows disrespect of Gods creation.

( check-up Proverbs 12 v10 and 27 ). For my own opinion

I regard venison hunting as the only type of hunting which can be justified.

This means that just because this government allows it and says that its 'sustainable' does not make it right. I can use an example as a comparison, such as casino gambling (eg: Sun City) which is legal in this country, but the Bible also forbids its practice. So I urge you to seriously reconsider your involvement with trophy hunting.

Thats just foolishly incorrect.

Verse 10 specifically references the care of domestic stock/pets by the owner. Nothing to do with game.

Verse 27 states that properly using the flesh of hunted game for food is an act of diligence and to not do so is lazy. Not a word about taking parts for a trophy, which actually could be construed as "using" all the parts.

Never mind the fact that in that day and age it was required of shepherds and herdsman to protect their stock from and KILL the predators including (and likely especially) LIONS. And here's the kicker; Jews (the chosen people who wrote the old testament) were/are forbidden from eating the carnivores they had to kill because they are among the unclean animals God forbade them to eat.

Samson killing the lion with his bare hands and leaving the body to be taken over by bees? David killing lions and wolves with his sling? Hello?

Thats just a strained, incorrect interpretation of verse.

In regards to Graeme's quotes, remember what Shakespeare said, "The devil can cite Scripture for his purpose."

I think people like this have a cartoonish view of what trophy hunting is all about. It's the trophy hunter who has the higher regard for the animal, not the anti-hunter. The trophy hunter doesn't see the animal just as another resource to consume, but something of high value, something exceptional, a trophy! Every animal I have hunted, every fish I have caught was a trophy in my book. Each one was a gift from nature, a gift from God.

We just assume that anti-hunters elevate the value of animals to that of humans. I think it's the other way around, they devalue human life to bring it down to that of animals. How else can you explain the outrage over one lion but nothing over the immense human suffering that goes on daily in Africa.

Again our local paper has opinion pieces against lion hunting from North American academics. The BBC and NY Times seem to have tried to pose the view from Africa but weakly. I wrote a letter to the editor about their apparent paternalism but to no avail. But, quite frankly, I am getting pissed off with how this issue is being dealt with by the governments in Africa. Since the debacle I dont believe there has been anything of substance from them. The Honourable Minister for South Africa was quoted before this event. To have one North American debating another North American about policy in Africa is stupid. The practical effect is that we who speak up are left looking like the villans because silence from overseas sounds like indifference. Even some sort of offical statement from the Professional Hunters Associations would help. Without a strong statement from those who make the policy we cannot do much here other than piss into the winds of public opinion. I am personally quite sick of the spray in my face

Even though this was meant to make a very good point, I still think an experience like this would be worth of every penny! (But I'd still rather hunt the buffalo! )

That's how I felt about my Lion and Buffalo hunt. I obviously want my trophies as I see them as an honor to the animal that will last for many years in my home and remind me of my time spent in the field. However, I think the thrilling experience of the hunt was worth it. Stalking large and dangerous animals in heavy cover with a good PH is a real challenge and a great rush. I will cherish those memories always and certainly plan to hunt,at least Buffalo again (hopefully soon).

ZimParks came out today with a Notice regarding conditions of hunts outside the Parks Estate. Nothing new of real importance, but two interesting conditions:

1. Individuals involved in illegal hunting are banned for life, and here's the interesting part, because "they tarnish the image of hunting . . . and their actions border on economic sabotage." This clearly means that actions that give hunting a bad name have costs to the hunting industry, and the government won't tolerate it. I think that's very practical, far-sighted and confirms all of the economic reasons in favour of hunting. Must drive the anti's wild.

2. "Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force led by Johnny Rodriguez be sanctioned for making malicious and reckless statements on wildlife issues in Zimbabwe." Wow.

I think as we hoped, and many predicted, the worm is starting to turn a bit, and the other side of the argument is beginning to gain some traction at the expense of the anti's.

Just read the notice. Very interesting....

I wonder what the sanctions will entail and whether or not anyone will pick up on this and make a point out of it? I know the main stream media won't, but will DSC or SCI even? I read the notice in a DSC update and there weren't any comments at all. I don't expect, or even want them to start screaming about how bad the antis are and pointing fingers loudly, but just calling out the sanction to members seems prudent.

Sure seems important that Parks think ZCTF is full of it. I tried to tell ole Johnny that how he handled it was wrong too, but I got banned for my efforts. I wonder if he will ban Parks too? LOL!!!

I have a question regarding who may have been along on the hunt. On these properties, is a Government Game Scout along? We had one with us all the time and have kind of been wondering where theirs may have been during all the activities.

Any updates on the investigation? Amazing how, all of a sudden, there is no notice of Cecil or anything about this anymore here in the States. At least I have not heard any mutterings recently. Always makes me wonder what the media is trying to cover up.
