....oft go awry!

I had thought about borrowing a P.H.s .375 if I ever decided to go on a cape buffalo hunt......and that was my "final" decision on this thread:

http://www.africahunting.com/threads/to-buy-or-borrow-a-rifle.21314/

Well.................plans change. I found a Winchester model 70 in .375 H&H on the net for what I considered a decent price............and..........well, er...............I bought it.
So now I am trying to find ammo locally (yeah...........right! 100,000 boxes of .30-06, 30/30, .270, .300 Win. mag, etc, etc, etc,...........think a local gun store would stock a box of .375 H&H magnum on their shelves?:D
I did find a couple of boxes: one a .270 grain Remington and the other a 300 grain Nosler partition (Winchester), so I have something to play with next time I go to the range.
The gun is in immaculate condition....nary a scratch on the wood or blueing. Whoever owned the gun before kinda buggered up the screws on the rear sight, but that's the only indication that I can find that this was a used gun. No scope on it yet (in addition to the local gun stores not stocking .375 ammo, they don't carry 1x4 dangerous game scopes, either...........go figure!:D
I hope to get a photograph up soon...............

So, my next question is: Will I be allowed to sit at the "big people" table at the next Thanksgiving dinner?:ROFLMAO:

Well, here it is:

From what I can tell, it was manufacture in 1975 (one year before my M94!)...I don't necessarily know if that is a good thing or a bad thing.
Aint she purty, though!:)

Maybe, just depends how well you behave with it.

I tell you what, if you use a 16 guage on your buffalo you can sit wherever you like. :)

Very nice rifle Mr 16. You can order the ammo from.....Midway USA, Cheaper Than Dirt and Able Ammo. Scopes Amazon for best prices if you know how to mount it yourself.

nice mr 16 gauge . now you have your small bore time to get something in the medium class.....;)

Well, I was thinking about getting a CZ550 in .416 Rigby....then I watched THIS video:eek:....and changed my mind!

When I saw the muzzle flip and the boxes of ammo flying off the bench, I thought......."Um......nope!"

Always kind of liked the style of those post 64 push feeders.

Same approximate recoil as a 6lb 12ga pump with a 3" 1650fps 1 1/4oz goose load. Way less than a 3 1/2" shoulder tenderizer. :)

Just seeing "6 lb., 12 ga., 3" and 1 1/4 @ 1,650" in the same sentence gives me the willies! My 870 is 3 lbs. heavier, and with 3" Brenneke slugs, things get plenty lively when she goes boom.

LOL my old pump is about that weight, most pumps and semis are only 1 1é2lb heavier. Min was tamed quite nicely with a limb saver pad, the steel butt plate it came with was a killer!!!

Mine has Magpul furniture and a heavy profile Barsto/Vang Comp 18" barrel, all of which adds weight (which I don't mind in the slightest). It's 8.6 lbs. empty and 9.25 lbs. loaded with 6 in the tube. Steel buttplate? Uh, no...

Oh, to OP, I apologize for the thread jacking! As I said earlier, nice rifle! She begs for a low-power scope and a trip to the range!

not sure about a push feed 375... but she is a nice looken rifle. the 375 gets you a seat at the big kids table but yer still drinken out of a sippy cup. :p

I think your overly worried about the recoil on the 416. I have a Winchester m70 in 416 RM and the recoil is very easy to work with, even for beginners. now you wont see me shooting my 416 off the bench like a 30-06 but standing its easy to shoot threw 20-40 rounds in a sitting. I even had a small 90 pound girl shoot my 416 without too much trouble. the key is too keep the rifle tight into your shoulder.
